I know I'm going to come off sounding like a smarta$$, but in my opinion using a trans brake with a 7.5" rear end was a recipe for disaster anyway. Time for a 9"! Take a walk through the pits and look under every car; 80-90% of drag racers can't be wrong.

Any rear end is going to need decent parts to survive transbrake or decent power. A GM 8.5 10 bolt or a 8.8 ford would probably be my first two choices.

I agree with Spencer....go with the 9" Ford if your budget will let you.

Personally I don't care for transbrakes, unless you have a purpose built chassis with everything reinforced and capable of holding much more power than you actually make.

The transbrake has the ability to find the weakest link in your car with the release of a button. Hell, I ripped the upper 4 link off with a footbrake launch. I can't imagine what going from unloaded to fully loaded suspension in a fraction of a second would do to the stock chassis.

well I've spent a lot of time welding up my chassis added frame stiffeners and rollbar, the only thing i didn't do is upgrade my rear-end until now. has anyone installed a 8.8 ford ? i just got one and am going to have c-clip eliminators and Chevy bolt pattern axles installed on to 3.73 tall gears or maybe 4.11 gears i still want street drivability, the torque arm will need to be re welded! should it go to the trans cross member or retain the tail-shaft local or some-other place? i know this tread should be in trans&drive section but i intend to shock the shit out of this rear-end and need info from people who understand that. money and time are a big issue this car is already way over budget and braking the bank so to speak so 9inch is not affordable nor is shorting a rear-end i need to basically weld in a good budget rear-end. i just installed a manuel body 350 trans with 3500stall and 2.53 tall first gear with trans brake my old rear was 7.5 monza with possi and 3.73 gears. any all help is needed and pics are needed of any 8.8s installed thanks....george

I was running low 9's with the torque arm on the trans. The only issue I had was with flex toward the back of TA and some bracing fixed that. An 8.8 with some axles will handle ALOT.

I will be running a Toyota Hilux (I'm not sure what you call them over there) rear end. All I've done is cut off all the original brackets and weld on a set of Monza brackets. They are a good beefy diff and are supposed to be good for at least 500hp. Overall width is 56" at the axle flanges so they fit in quite well. I'm also putting in 17 x 8 wheels. I went with this diff because they are a lot cheaper to put in than a 9"

On the 8.8, I would do 9" housing ends and 31 spline, (or more), axles, much better, cheaper, and less trouble than c-clip eliminators. You can still use Ford Exploder rear discs with 9" housing ends, (got the same setup on the back of my Vega now). And I would build a dedicated crossmember tying into your frame connectors for the front torque arm mount. 8)
