Chris,

Are you looking for a posi rear? I have a 2.56 non-posi rear end
already set up with 5-lug axles and drums from an '82 s-10, just
needs gear lube. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for the reply Charlie. I will wait for a while to see what
else comes in. I can find S10 rears here on the east coast. The 2.29
makes the engine turn about 2000 at 60, which is just right with the
thirteens bolted on.

Chris,

With the 2.56 gears I have in my '76 monza I would turn 115mph at
close to 4,000rpm's with a 1.00:1 fourth gear and 185/60/14 tires
(tire height comes to 22.75inches tall, which if I remember right is
either right at or just below the factory tire size.) I don't
remember what the rpm's at 60mph were because, well... I just simply
never drove that slow. Once I had the courage to bring it all the
way up to 4,700rpm's in fourth and according to a program I used to
have that kind of rpm with the previously state gear and tire size
came up to 128mph. Just a little info I thought you'd like to know.

Thanks for the reply. I use 60 MPH as a reference to figure because
it makes all the math easy.

60 MPH =1 mile per minute
5280/(2*pi*r(tire))= rear axle RPM (1 mile = 1 minute)
rear RPM*diff ratio*final trans = engine RPM @60 MPH

I have 13s on the car. I tried once to buy 14s from Diamond Wheel,
but got 4 X 100mm. It was a hassle, with Diamon telling they would
work, but there is .063 difference. Right not it has a 3.73 posi and
goes nowhere fast. The 400 small block is beating itself to death
with loading to speak of. too much power for the small tires and a
real pain on the highway.

Chris,

When/if you find a 2.29 rear end and you want to get rid of the 3.73
posi rear, I would be very interested in it. I really don't want a
2.56 geared rearend in my vega. If you decide to get rid of it e-
mail me at vega_guy@ hotmail.com

Charlie

PS: If you can't find a 2.29, just remember that I do have two 2.56
geared rearends one posi, the other is not, both are 5 on 4-3/4 bolt
pattern.
