Bob and Wade,
i`ll give you a trick to make
the spyder
gears last longer
use a pin from a
non posi unit
the non posi pin will have 4 flats
on it
this will bring more lube between the
pin
and the spyder gears if you don`t have a
non posi
pin just use your grinder and
grind 4 1/16 to 1/8
deep flats where the
spyder rides on the
pin

the pin from a non posi unit WILL fit a
posi GM
unit and i`m 90% sure it will fit
the Auburn unit
too(the pin might too long
so you`ll just have to cut
a bit on the
opposite side of the retaining
bolt
(i`ll post a pic in the tech club in the
rear end
section to show where to grind)

For the preload og
the side gears
usually on cone type rear end when
they
wear the cones will botoom on the
inside
of the cage one trick is to remove material
on
the opposite side of the gear and put
two washers
behind the spyder gears or
put a shim between the
cone and the gear
to check the preload of the gears
i install
only one side gear and cone and the 2
spyder
gears whit the pin the i put a screwdriver
between the pin and the side gear and try to
slide the
spyder gears on the pin (you want
about1/16 of
movement)to tighten them you
have to add shims between the
gear and the
cone (prefered method) or add shims
behind
the spyder gears(on very worn
unit)

Hope to have helped you
look in the rear end
section i`ll post drawings

Also,
always use
a good gear lube
if you can find it use GL-6
lube
and ALWAYS use the GM posi additive
it will
help the cone or clutch las longer
and it will
reduce posi jerking and noise

Denis
