Speedo troubles...

Hello all I have a 75 town coupe w/ a 4spd and a
350 in it. I am having some troubles w/ the
speedometer. The odometer is working just fine , the speedo
only seems to go to 40 mph and bounces alot. It worked
just fine until a couple of days ago. I have been
driving around by the tach for speed. I am not too
familiar w/ the inside of these speedos, I thought it was
a drum rotating inside another making the needle
move. Anybody seen this before? The cable is new and
the odometer is working o/k so I think that it is in
the speedometer itself.

just
puzzled....
-Nick

usually bouncing speedos means
a bad
cable

Check if you kinked the cable or if it
burned on a exaust pipe

those speedos work whit
magnets and a flying
piece of steel that makes the
needle move

www.speedometers.com

be sure
to check if the cable has lube in it
you can
usea bit of auto trans oil

don`t put ANY
OIL IN THE SPEEDO MECANISM

I had a problem like this. Normally it is time to
change wire, but I had maid the wire to the speedodeter
to long (had to get it out of way from the headers)
so that the speedometer itself got axial-force
pressure, then it started saying tick-tick, and the bearing
inside the speedometer broke down afer a week.

Nick - It's a long shot but it may be as simple
as the needle itself rubbing up against the cover
plate. I had this happen once after I was working on the
speedo. Maybe yours has shifted or moved and it is now
touching. Just loosen off your instrument grill cover
screws and see if it makes a difference.
