Ideas? there are a lot of them, and you don't
have to tub it. The main concern here is how much
force the rear end will have to endure. If you use the
stock rear with a 383 stroker and regular street tires,
all yer gonna do is spin, so the rear end doesn't
take any force.
If you want traction, that rear
will not be long in this world. You might get a few
good launches, but it will fail you.
If you
plan on getting traction and putting good power to it,
there are several options. There is a way to swap in
the (somewhat) stronger S10 pinion and gears, keeping
your stock housing. You will want to invest in
stronger axles as well.
Another possibility is
narrowing a 12-bolt and changing the brackets to fit. No
narrowing required. You could also do the same with any
other rear.
And I am sure there are many other
possibilities. No need to tub unless you need more rubber for
traction. you should be able to fit an 8" slick in the
wheelwell.... should be enough... Your problem is limited to
axle strength and how much stress you put on
it.
