I know there was some discussion about this a
while back on the main GM H-Body site a while back but
I don't believe that anyone had successfully
installed a rack and pinion setup in a monza. There are a
lot of interfernce problems with the K member and oil
pan etc. It certainly won't be a bolt-in modification
to swap the front end to a rack and pinion/strut
suspension. In all reality, the stock suspension can be
modified to work very well with the selection of proper
springs, shocks, anti sway bar, and maybe even a different
steering box for a quicker ratio and better feel. Not
trying to discourage you from doing what you want but
you are talking about a lot of fabrication along with
getting the suspension alignment and everything else
sorted out. What exactly are you trying to achieve?

I used a jegs front end although this is a pretty
radical swap. The setup uses a pinto rack and moves the
engine back to the cowl!! bye bye stock firewall... but
the frame uses the vegamonza a-arms and springs. The
only thing you may be able to take advantage of (using
the stock frame) is the tie rod adapters they make
(part# 550-40201) for the vegamonza spindles to adapt
the pinto rack.

Good luck.

Amen brother, Your telling the truth. Don't be to quick to throw factory stuff in the trash when in a street car it will work fine.

That is my feeling too, I am not into trying to
re-invent the wheel, maybe just trying to make it rounder!
To completely redesign the front end, to me, is not
worth the bother, not when you can make the stock front
end, or any other part of the car for that matter,
work very well on the street. Not to say something
can't be done, but is it worth it in the end? I suppose
it's a personal choice but I would rather spend the
money improving on the stock design than redoing the
whole thing. Clyde

I should tell you folks that this car is going to
be a pro-street car for a while then will become a
full time drag car. Thats why it got the full chassis
and four link set back engine 9 inch rear and 31 inch
tires.....This will not be alot of fun to drive on the street
but it will be fast!! If it were a street only car it
would have got a back half and a full cage and thats
about it.
