T-56 trans install

I'm installing a heavy hitting 350 .060 and T-56.
I'd like to add subframe connectors, but I am unsure
as to go with round or square tubing. A Jegs 6 or 8
point rollcage will be installed, but I won't tub the
car! A 8.5 narrowed and hung by ladder bars will do
nicely, but I'm not sure if there's room for a wishbone
track locator in the rear. My objective is handling and
strength. I will race the car at the drags, spectator dirt
and asphalt circle tracks, Nevada silver state
challenge, or wherever I can plant my foot in it legally.
(or otherwise!)
I guess Pro-touring sums it up.
:)

I don't think a wishbone was designed to handle
corners a panhard bar would be more appropriate. The
square tube is stronger in equal lengths. A ten point
cage would control body twist much better than a six
and be a lot safer. You will be unhappy with ladder
bars in a circle application because they won't let
the body roll (left or right) without the rearend
housing staying with it. Ladder bars are a drag
suspension by design and are not reccomended by anyone for
the street and certanly not roundy round. You would
be better off to re-support the stock suspension and
install stronger parts folks here can tell you exactly
what that requires.

Good Luck

What about the ladder bars in desert racing and
stadium trucks? Have they got a floater of some kind?
Considering the Monza's meager suspension travel, 1" rear by
1/18 front sway bars, and stiff springs, I don't plan
on the car leaning much in corners. I might have to
build a model and see what the stress points
are.

Floaters simply allow the rear end to stay
straight in relation to the car and the leaf spring to
move without binding....same issue. There are some
ladder bars made for street use with rubber bushed ends
this will allow some chassis roll but limited at best.
I am into drag racing primarily and have seen
ladder bars work and not depending on the car setup.
Maybe some types of trucks use a ladder bar setup but I
would guess that they dont work as well as a four link
type of setup or independent. Lifting the rear of the
car or truck first will surely break traction on dirt
weight transfer is still an issue and most cars with
ladder bars lift the rear first (nose heavy) before
transfering weight rearward. The travel of most aftermarket
coil overs is around 2 12 inches. If you need advise
on street or drag setups I will tell you what I know
but I have to leave the dirt to someone who knows
what their doing. Finding a suspension that will do
both well will be difficult if not impossible the
truth is you will lose some speed on both sides to find
a comprimise that works.

True.. I might want to peek at Nascar or Nastruck
designs... Nothing better that a good feeling car, one you
can hang out with complete control! I'll sacrifice a
few tenths at the strip, I should have enough motor
to make up for it at the big end. It'll probably be
a four link.
