Hello all,

This weeks feature is
'Street Machine' from june of '77, It is a new model road
test article found on pages 62-65...

Here is
one of the better articles previewing the '77 Monza
Spyder.
As you find more and more of the preview articles
from the different magazines,of the time, you become
very familiar with the car in this article. It was
apparently a press sample from GM.
From this I would
presume that GM slipped a 350 in place of the 305 and
some better gearing for the press, but none of the
Magazines reported the car to be a barn burner,so its fair
to say that this was a true example of a 305
equipped spyder. But mind you it had an automatic
tranny, and, air conditioning. Definately less of a performer
than a 4 speed,'no-air' car. Thus explaining the
acceleration performance results.
Some other things to
notice..someone snatched the rear trunk lock cover emblem!
doh..
And those fancy rear tail pipe cutouts!
I
imagine these didnt make it to production because of the
urethane. You can't have hot exhaust pipes that close with
out distortion or full meltdown.
These cutouts
are on all the yellow spyder automatics in the
magazine tests from 1977. Leading me to believe that it
was actually just one car. (It has the same licence
plate in a few of the mags)
This car also features
that mysterious dash decal, although this particular
article dosent have a good shot of it.
I found this
magazine at the Carlisle fair grounds swap meet last
spring. There is a magazine rack I travel to every
year.He always has alot of 'oddball' car mags from the
70's.

Over all I give this Magazine 4**** out of 5.

As one of the 5 or so different reviews I have of
this car, this one has some of the most favorable
text. No subtle hints that the authors didnt really
like the car like in other Mags. And no advertisments
throughout the 5 page article.
And I like the
Photos..lots of 'hey lets try this angle' shots. As if they
were really trying to capture the 'art' of this cars
design.
Well I hope you enjoy, let me know if the
download speeds are to slow, or if there is any trouble
viewing the files..
Till Next week..I'm marco and
this is the Weekly Magazine Feature...
