She looks good Bill, looks real good. Looking forward to the finished product. I'm just happy it went to a good home, rather than the scrap yard as the owner had said it might.

II.Thanks again dude! Bill in Az...

Hell Bill, if I'd known you were giving away
trannies I would have gotten one from you, hehe. I'm
looking to change/swap my 4-speed manual to a TH350 auto
in the near future.
Does that mean another trip
to Cali to get the 70 Camaro as well?

I must be out in left field on the topic of
Monza's as I did not know that there was a Th400 tranny
out there. It wasn't a Monza tranny was it, I thought
the highest put in the Monza was the 350? What is the
difference betweeen them and is the 400 significantly better
than the 350 and how? Sorry for the dumb questions,
but I'm still just a rookie with all this
stuff.

Hi Bryan,no problem. There are no dumb
questions!!!The turbo400 trannys were put in heavy duty
applications like 3/4 and 1 ton trucks and big old impala
wagons in the60's, 70's,and 80's.They were generally
behind bigblock engines. They are comonly used today by
drag racers as they can be built damn near bullit
proof.(Im putting a "built"400 in my 73 vega wagon).For a
street car it might be considered a bit of overkill. From
what you described to me id suggest you go with the
turbo350,with maybe a slighly higer than stock stall speed
converter.Email me with any questions and i'll do my best to give
you acurate answers.Bill in AZ

Well, Bryan if your now tearing the motor
down...start with the block and work out-ward ,now is the time
to search for a steel crank if you plan to
turbocharge or supercharge. You could get a new one if you
have the bucks..orfind a used one from a wrecking yard
turbomotor, if one could be found.
think about pistons
that will yield 9.5 to one compression..those will
help the performance while using the factory
heads.

Marco

Hi Marco
No, I'm not tearing down the motor
yet, probably not until the fall sometime (my friend
is swamped with HEMIs at the moment). The thought of
a turbo or super had crossed my mind and I assume
that a steel crank would be beneficial regardless of
whether or not I use a turbo or supercharger? I guess if
I already have one, that would be one less thing I
would need to do if I eventually went with turbo or
super. I'll remember the 9.5:1 ratio as well,
Thanks!!!!
Bryan

Bill
Yeah, that's what I thought, figured the
400 was a little out of my league. I will definitely
stick with a TH350, hopefully I can find someone with
one that is interested in a stock Saginaw 4-speed
which is what I've currently got. I will definitely be
using you and others as a sounding board, Thanks
!!!

Keep in mind as you search for a turbo350 that
they used a special mounting set up on the tailshaft
housing to mount the long torque arm from the rear end.Im
going to snap a picture of mine for you so you know
what to look for!:):):)

Bill
If your talking about what I think you
are, it's a 3 hole mount in behind the tranny that
connects to the driveshaft. Jon, in Roy showed me the
mount when I was passing through Utah with my Monza. I
appreciate the pics though, but no need to go throught the
effort as I've already seen one (hey maybe I do know a
thing or 2 about the Monza's now, lol) Now I just need
to find a good Th350 to get installed into my little
beast.
