Should I buy this Monza????

Hey guys. I had a buddy of mine take pictures of
a 1980 Spyder that someone in Manitoba has for
sale. I have posted the pictures under the album
Manitoba Monza in this club. The guy says the car has been
sitting outside for the last ten years. Of course the one
picture that I wanted my buddy didn't take - the
underside of the car. So I have to guess about it's
condition.

Here is the deal. The guy want's $500 for the Spyder
and the parts car. I don't know if it would be worth
it to spend the money to buy these cars and have
them shipped to Ontario. I would like the opinions of
the members of this group.

Whadda Ya Think?
Should I just wait until a gem like Bryan's comes
along?

Marvin

Hi Marvin
Well thanks for the compliment on my
little beast (or "gem" as you call it). I am extrememly
happy with it. As for the Manitoba Monster your looking
at, the parts car almost looks to be in better shape,
hehe, but that's just from 1 small pic. The Spyder does
have a few decent things about it though, the front
Spyder emblem is intact, sunroof, rear spoiler and front
air dams are all present (hard to tell about rear
spoiler warping though, probably is after 10 years in
Maitoba weather). That's a Buick V6 in there, by the way.
It could be worth it, if you have the wearwith all
to get it transported home. Definitely a project car
but definitely restorable in my humble opinion.
As
for whether or not it's worth it, well some called me
crazy for going to the other side of the continent to
pick up a Monza, in any condition, but to me (and that
was the key) it was worth it and I still think it
was, even after I've seen my credit card bills lately.
I'd still take a look around and see what else there
is though (so you can weigh some options rather than
focus on 1), you never know just what may pop up. Good
Luck, let us know how it goes.
Bryan

dont even think about restoring an H if you
havent looked at the floorpan yourself.Or can get a
totally honest description.
Where those cars are
parked is over weeds, the Perfect environment to invite
floorpan rust.
If they have been there over a
year.
The cars do look like good values in parts
though! Im not sure about after shipping costs though.

The brown one has lots of potential if its
solid, and the spyder looks like It could dontae alot of
parts. It was missing the trunk emblem as well.

Thanks - I just didn't know if I would ever be
able to find one in Ontario that wasn't completely
rusted out. That's what happened to my first one when I
was younger and not so clever. I neglected the body
and it just plain fell apart. Any tips on where I
should look to find a '79 or '80 Spyder?

Yup, Stayner isn't all that far from me, here in North York (OK ... Toronto now). Nice to see there are a few more Monza owners in this province. They all seem to be out west.

Bryan, I found you a transmition! whats more, its
in a monza,so it will have everything you need for
the swap. Oh,and its in Canada too!!!
Its my
buddy cliff in Ottowa..he has a 231 V6 car,without a
motor,he is parting out.
I'm sure he'll sell for a
reasonable deal,I believe he mentioned having a recently
rebuilt trans as well..
awesome huh?
keep in
touch..

Hi Les
What model automatic trannies do you have? I'm looking to exchange my Saginaw 4-speed for a TH350 auto in my 80 Spyder with the Buick V6 powerplant.
