Marco, you can do it in your driveway, all you
need is the right ratio box.
I'm sure you've seen
them, it's a small rectangular box with small gears
inside this will let you overdrive or underdrive your
speedo by however much you need, I believe GM still
sells them, I imagine they aint cheep from the
dealer.
There are two different kinds, one is offset for tight
spots and if you got lots of room (no cross members in
the way) you could go with a straight one, you
install it between you speedo cable and the speedo
connector on the side of the tranny.
For this to work
properly your speedo has to be fairly accurat to begin
with, when I put the TH200 4R in mine it made the
speedo read to fast so I gotta fix that first.
If you
ask GM for a 62% underdrive I'm not sure what kind of
an answere you'll get as they might use other part
numbers. I have'nt done this myself yet so I'll keep you
posted, if I come up empty with the dealer hear's another
source,
North Hollywood Speedometre 818/761 5136 this company
sells these ratio boxes March/00 CHP magazine, just to
give you an idea on price Herb Adams used to sell them
for $50.00 that was in the mid '80s.
P.S. Looking
forward to seeing you're black monza with the mirage
pannells, that's going to be a cool project, good luck, Ian
