Monza GT?

I bought a 79 Monza Gt wagon the other day.I have
never seen one before,can anybody shed some light on
this car for me? Has big GT in the grille and on the
tailgate. Was this guys grandmas car,he pulled the v6 to
put in a v8 and it never happened,been sitting for 6
years. Very nice interior,near perfect except for
shifter handle.Outside body has no dents,driver side
front fender has a little rust though.Anyway, I
appreciate the help.Posted on hbody 1 two days ago,no
replys,kinda unusual I thought.

I saw both of your posts and want to
give you a reply.
I personally have never seen a
Monza GT in ANY kind of body style. I just re-read my
'79 Monza dealer brochure and there's no mention of
that option. However, there's one sentence on the
station wagon that says to be sure and ask your dealer
for a station wagon catalog. I've never seen one of
these catalogs, so who knows?
Maybe it was a dealer
add-on. Regardless, sounds like you got a really nice car
at a good price.

pics.

Kirk,
Saw the mention in the Hbody club, also
have never seen one. It is one to restore as probably
very few producec. Call GM Hotline and ask for a
restoration kit, will need the VIN on the wagon. The phone
number is 1-800-222-1020, call weekdays 8-4 Central
time. Won't cost you anything and will have a lot of
information, might even have it on that GT.

I think it was in an old dealer parts book I saw
the stripes for a monza gt hatchback(round headlights
only).
I also read about it possibly in a book
called the american car spotters guide. came with the
231,and the f41 handling suspention.

wagon...I can imagine a version for this car to.

probably has a 231 and front and rear swaybars.

Well, I have never heard of a Monza GT in any
model year. But you mentioned stripes, and there was a
Sport stripe option for the 1980 Monza. All 3 Monza
options (coupe, hatch, sport hatch) could have this
roughly 1-2 inch wide striping that went from the front
headlights to the rear lamps following the curves of the car
above the wheels and under the windows. Not a bad
looking option, and these stripes were also colour coded
to match the interior of the car bought. I doubt it
was all that popular though, as I have never seen a
pic of one with this striping but it was available
but it wasn't called a GT option.

I had the 'sport' striping package you mentioned
on an '80 square headlight (R code)hatchback. It
looked cool.
The Gt striping I saw was a thick black
stripe, where the 2 black spyder striped would be on the
door. the script 'GT' was somewhere in the decal.
I
think the '78 brochure mentions it.
it was for
round headlight models.

I have to say, If I was
sitting in the sales office back then deciding on which
monza to buy..I would have been at a serious delema as
to weather to get a round headlight model with a 305
and gt handling...basically a sleeper spyder, and
lighter than a regular spyder.
Or a blue spyder V8 4
spd...or no wait...a yellow...
Gosh..choises ,choises.
