I cut my rear springs as well, and when I put my
car on the hoist at work I have to put the hoist pads
under the trailing arms or the springs will fall out, I
would'nt want to get airborn in this car it would make for
a real ugly landing!
Did you attach the safty
cables to the floor pan? I talked to a friend of mine
who works at a local track and he says what some of
the guys do is use a couple of seat belts to keep the
diff from dropping to far. This is an area that I've
been thinking about for some time, maybe some kind of
traction bar snubber and shackle under the trailing
arm..... don't know how that would work, just thinking out
loud. Can you upload some more pics? I'd like to see
how your car sits. Ian

Do you have any problems with detonation with that much compression? Ian

as a matter of fact yes the small chamber heads
seem to help cause it, had to work the distributor to
reduce the total advance, run about 1 to 2 dergees back
and shrouded my fan which brought temp down to about
175c also helped and i run on nothing i mean nothing
but supreme. c12 works real great. get a full tire
rotation when i go from second to 3rd.

when i cut my springs i ran into the same
problem. what i did to solve it turned out to be pretty
simple. i used a length of 5/16" steel cable and made a
loop at each end using 2 aluminum crimps to secure
each loop. the lower loop was fastened to lower shock
mount on the axle in between the washer and the mount.
the upper loop i simply attached to the upper shock
mount sandwiched between the shock and the body. had it
there all this summer without a hitch (5500km). when
installed it runs right along side the shock. i expect at
some point i'll have to replace it due to wear and
tear but so far it is still there. i usually check it
once a week due to it experimental nature. i'll try
and email you some picks but my email is somewhat
undependable lately.

regards

dave

Dave, That's a good idea you've come up with,
it's been a while since I last looked into this but I
think I know what you're talking about.
Thanks for
the pic! thats a really nice looking car, same colour
as mine which actually an '80 Skyhawk with quad
headlights and hood off a '79 Monza, the single headlight
and flat hood just did'nt cut it.
The rear of my
car sits slightly higher than the front, overall it
sits higher than yours mostly because of the 15"
wheels. I've wanted drop the back end another inch but I
was worried about the springs, I think your idea will
do the trick. I've had four different sets of
springs in my car, (invented some new swear words)
including a set of Dobi's.... sent them back and I'm not
done yet. Regards Ian. thanks alot for the pic it came
through great.
