The fastest stock H body..

I was wondering today....what the fastest,
regular production H body was?(in a quarter mile and 0 to
60 acceleration run)..
Any speculations?

The cars would have to have regular production axle
ratio's and engine's and have been produced over 500
units.

I think this would eliminiate the 63 V8 trunk
model sunbirds made in 1978. The year with the highest
horsepower available...(145hp in the 305)
So maybe a
monza with round headlights and a V8, I know this was
possible in the hatchback models with round lights.

I'm not sure If you could get a trunk model but I
dont see why not.
I also think that the automatics
had better quarter mile times from the factory. So it
would have to be a V8 auto I guess.

Or would a
cosworth vega be the victor?

Probably on a road
racing course.

Anyhow, any other guesses?

maybe a cali 350 4bbl? oh wait, no one knows if those
even existed from the factory!

the fastest of the production h bodies ran a lack
luster 15.60s on street tires it would indeed be the 78
v8 monza the camaro and corvette were the fastest of
the gm 78s they ran high 14s on street tires...the h
bodies came at a time of emissions when performance was
sacrafised for fuel economy.. in these days the smog police
controlled the car industry a time of tree hugger and eco
nuts...... the last of the performance died in 71 that is
untill the gm gurus resurfaced in 94 with the lt1 350
and its been all good since then go general motors
hope this helps.....

What about the '79 Sunbird trunk model with a
305? I haven't found out how many were made,so it
could be 500? Maybe? I just bought my second one, just
rolled over 100k,bored 30,rv cam,c3b intake,holley
600,runs great, fairly quick. The first one I bought just
has 84k and is all stock with a 2 barrel, both smoke
the hides, new one has posi, both fully loaded. If you
can find out how many, please let me know.
