My "Mirage Monza" and "Monza Mirage" decals that
are on the doors are coming off. Does anyone have an
idea of what is the best way to have them reproduced?
Can a graphics shop take pictures of what is left of
them and computer enchance it?
Anyone got any
ideas?

Bob, yes, a good decal reproduction place can
look at them, size them up (even take measurements)
and reproduce them graphically, then print them. I've
seen someone I know do this with an original mid-80's
Winston Cup car he's restoring (one of Neil Bonnet's old
cars). He had pics of some of the old decals that used
to be on his race car and had them reproduced (since
you obviously couldn't get half of those decals
anymore)

You might try Jim Osborne reproductions
at:
101 Ridgecrest Drive
Lawrenceville, GA
30045
Phone: (770) 962-7556
Fax: (770)
962-5881
<a href=http://www.osborn-reproduction.com/vega.html target=new>http://www.osborn-reproduction.com/vega.html</a>

He may already have a set of those Mirage decals
(just the words, not the red/blue stripes) available. I
seem to recall Rob Patton getting them
recently.

Bob, one other idea is to call Ralph Greinke at
Stencils & Stripes (847) 692-6893. He doesn't make the
decals for the Mirage "yet", but has been seriously
considering it for a while now. All he really needs is to
hear from enough Mirage owners out there to know
there's an interest and he'll do it. This same method
worked several years ago when we got enough interest in
the Monza Spyder package and now he makes it too. I
would encourage "everyone" to give Ralph a
call.

Ken

Ken,
Thanks for the info. I may try both of
your suggestions. I know several years ago Ralph had
contacted me and sent me some stenciling tape, but I just
had my car painted before he contacted me and the
decals were then gone. I may also try to get the rest of
my "nighthawk" decals. I have 90 % of them still in
the original GM boxes.

Holy cow, you've got Nighthawk decals??!!!! Which
ones do you have and which ones are you still missing?
Any chance you could take some High-rez photos of
them?.... (wow, I can't believe you have those!)

Ken,
You may remember that I have a lot of
goodies in storage in Mississippi. I will be going back
there in about two weeks. I am not sure how much time I
will have to look through the storage, but as I
remeber there was only a stripe of gold colored decal
that was about a foot long I cannot remember if it was
from the front fender or the rear fender. If I could
find someone that can track the part numbers or
simulate the glowing 3m tape it would be a complete kit. I
also have about eight or nine buick skyhawk oem 13"
aluminum wheels. You probably already know that they are
not the same as the monza aluminum wheels. Instead of
the holes they have "D's". I do not have a digital
camera yet, but I may by the time I get to
Crusinthecoast. Like I said before ,I am trying to get down to
one monza or skyhawk. After I do that ,I will
probably have some parts to sell off. However, in the
meantime I may need some parts to finish one of the cars.

Bob, yes, I recalled after posting that message
the conversations you and I had concerning those
decals. I also remember you mentioning everything you
still have stored away in Mississippi. It's too bad my
wife already has my vacation planned (funny how they
can do that!), but I'm gonna be in your neck of the
woods in two weeks as a matter of fact. This Friday I'm
taking off on vacation to the gulf coast of Alabama, not
that far from Biloxi and the surrounding areas where
you were stationed. I will spend just over a week
there. Maybe I'll have to sneak away on a "Fishing Trip"
for a day and drive on over to see you and your
stowed-away toys. *smile*

Ken

P.S. What is
"Cruisinthecoast"?

Ken,
You ought to check out the webiste of
crusinthecoast. If you like rock n roll of 50s thru 70s and hot
rods about 2000 of them or so, it would be a shame to
be so close in Alabama and to miss it. It is like
the hot august night in Reno. If you have never been
there before, you will see (if the weather is good) why
I never miss it. I think that you will be
pleasantly surprised. Of, course they also have about a
dozen casinos if you want to lose some of those spare
dollars that Uncle Sam gives you.

Does anyone know if the mirage decal production
was ever produced or is close to recieveing enough
support to warrant a run of decals ?? Rob ..anyone??
I
am still debating on painting them for longevity or
using the origionals etc...reds fade fast so they would
have to be taken very good care of etc

I talked to Ralph at Stencils and Stripes today.
He told me that he has a list of 6 or 7 people
interested in the stripes but it has been about a year since
he has updated his list. He needs 10 orders to do a
run of the Mirage decals. Anyone interested should
call him. (847-692-6893) The price is $895. Ron

In addition to the commitment from 10 people to
even start a production run, he must also have a 50%
deposit from those 10 people. Kinda puts a damper on the
plans, at least for me it does. My restoration project
will definitely have a set of these stripes, just
can't send a deposit of that size right now.

As
far as whether to paint or apply decals, I feel
there's no other way to go than a set of decals. Since
they're made from a 3M material that is far superior to
what was OEM back in '77, the fading issue is
technically a non-issue. I'm told that the new vinyls are
very UV-resistant and will hold their color for a much
longer time than they used to.

I would like to
echo Ron's comment about calling Ralph and letting him
know you're interested. He's a super nice guy and will
talk your ear off, so call him when you've nothing
else to do. LOL

Anyone interested in how my
restoration is coming along can check out my
homepage:
