Jeff, you are experiencing, unfortunately, one of
the most common problems with these cars, and that is
"rust", particularly where the rear axle control arms
connect to the unibody. I currently have the same problem
with my 78 Spyder. I have owned another Hbody car
(Buick Skyhawk) that had that section repaired by
welding in a new steel plate, approximately 12"X12" in
size. (was done prior to me buying it) It seemed to
hold just fine, however, it was very noticable when
viewed from underneath. But if it's "functionality"
you're looking for, and not necessarily the "OEM
flawless" look, then this is a viable alternative. To
answer your other question, no, there is also no kit
produced (or was there ever) to fix the common problem
