vega alt help!!!!

I finally got my v-8 vega going....all was well
for a few days....now I need help! I put a new
alternator on it (simple 3 wire hookup). The battery was
being charged for a while...now it is not! What in the
vega charging system would cause a working alternator
(i had it tested!) to not supply power to the car
and/or charge the battery. It seems simple, but it sure
isn't powering the car (the car dies when i take the +
cable off the battery!) HEELLPPPPP

first of all, DO NOT TAKE THE BATTERY CABLE OFF
THE BATTERY!!. You might have a bad alternator or
voltage regulator. What year Vega do you have and what
style alternator too. Is it the old style GM with
external regulator or a new style with internal regulator.
Better yet ,what year car did your alternator come off
of.

Chris,
Be sure to see that you have 12 volts
available to the Alternator when the key is switched on. If
this is ok, call me at home after 6pm tonight or
before 9am tomorrow and we will work it out...Robert

hey robert....i have converted my alt to a one
wire setup...seems to do pretty well....thanks for the
reply...still looking for that shifter for you. I am thinking I
may keep my axle in the car.....any luck on those
wheels?
