Hardy Mounts:

If anyone has experience with the Don Hardy
mounts, please let me know more about them. The day I
drove to Floydada to look at them, they were out of
stock and the guy who handles the conversion kits,
Fernando, was on vacation. I understand it is a steel
mountplate that allows them to use a stock GM SBC mount from
a '71 Impala that is still readily available. Total
cost I was quoted is $48.00 per plate, and $20.00 per
rubber mount. I would prefer using mounts that can be
easily and cheaply replaced than using Monza mounts, but
want to be sure I can either run stock LT1 manifolds
or Sanderson CC13HO headers with the Hardy mounts.
The Hardy headers may be great for the strip, but
they aren't that great for a street setup and won't
worh with a d-port exhaust head without major
mods.

They fit between the stock Vega mounting plate
and the engine mounting location. I think stock Monza
exhaust manifolds will clear. I got a set from Dale Welch
with a set of Hedmans and it was a nightmare untill I
got the Transdapt front mount kit. If your exhaust
passes at all through the area near the engine mount
location the Hardy parts will be a NO GO.

I remember reading any mix of Hooker and Hardy
stuff basically won't work. My stock LT1 manifolds
should work great then, IF the left manifold clears the
steering shaft. Fernando at Hardy says they have never
fitted up a set of Sandersons either, so they might work
as well.

The Don Hardy Mounts do fit with a Sanderson
Header. I am making jigs for the Motor/Transmission
Mounts and will offer them for sale soon as a complete
kit, including new mounts with a built-in motor mount
separation safety feature...Something the early mounts did
not have! I am wanting to get an idea as to the
potential demand for these parts Vs. cost of production, so
here is a projected quote: You would get (2) Motor
Mount Brackets, (2) New Motor Mounts, (1) Transmission
Crossmember, (1971-1974 2-bolt) (1) Motor Mount and all
attaching hardware for $250.00. This would be a straight-up
bolt-in swap with no cutting, drilling or welding. Of
course, Hooker Headers would not work, so you will need
Manifolds or Sanderson's, but give me an idea of what you
think. Compare this to $185.00 for (2) Monza Mounts from
Dave's Vega Village, not including buying Monza
Brackets, cutting off the old plates and drilling new
holes, or $120.00 for the Hooker Kit and
Drilling/Welding to make it fit. Let me know what you gentlemen
think.....Robert...(Ida91@aol.com)
