Transmission hump modification?

Hey guys,
I am just curious how much everyone
had to modify their tunnel when installing the V-8 in
their cars. When I put mine in, I didn't modify, which
caused me to mount the rear of the tranny pretty low.
The only problem I am having with this is the drive
shaft angle causes quite a bit of vibration. How high
up does everyone have their engine and trannys
sitting? I am using the factory v8 monza motor mounts in
front and a custom trans mount.

Thanks for the
help,
Wade

Transmission hump modification?

I raised my small block 2-1/2" over the "stock"
heighth in my '77 Vega wagon; I only needed to dimple the
hump slightly at the 12-o'clock position and at 3- and
9-o'clock locations for a little clearance. My Vega had a
4-speed manual -- I don't know if that makes a
difference.

I also use a solid mid-mount, so there is no
torque-induced rotation in my driveline, either, so my
clearances aren't as critical as V8 Vegas with rubber motor
mounts.

Transmission hump modification?

The tunnel on the 73 is kinda weird. On the right
side(facing the firewall from front of car) the tunnel isn't
round. It comes up like a normal v8 car on the left side
and then about 12oclock cuts straight to about 3 or 4
oclock. Have you guys seen the install pictures for the
Don Hardy Vega? I think they were printed in Car
Craft or Hot Rod or something in the 70s or 80s. In
that article they "messaged" the 120 to 40 area of
the tunnel so the bell housing would fit up into it
like it should.

I didn't want to beat it in so
I just modified it a little by notching it out. NO
pounding on my car. It is functional this way, but I have
a nasty driveline vibration. Any suggestions other
than the weird pinion angle?
