Does anyone know how much it costs to narrow a 12
bolt or a 9" for a Vega? Just an estimate. I am
looking into putting a rearend in my car and I would like
to know how much I can expect to have to pay.
Thanks....Jordan

Hey Jordan, check out Bob Gumm's site.
http://www.v8monza.com./ He's got a new section in there that's called the
"parts catalog". He's got the best price that I've found
for a narrowed 12 bolt rear end, for a Vega. It's
made by Don Hardy, "but without the mark up"! He also
has a kit form, with all the pieces, and instructions
to cut your own housing! Bob

I have been to Bob's site and seen the narrowed
12 bolt that he has, but $836.00 bucks seems like a
lot. Maybe its just me. Its definately nice because it
will mount straight into a Vega, but I was looking a
little cheaper if I can get away with it. Did you narrow
the 9" in your Vega Jimmy or did you buy it that way?
Just curious. I think I am gonna go with an 8" Ford
out of a Mustang II. They are everywhere down
here...thanks Jordan

Hey Jordan, did you see the kit, for $478.00, and
you cut your own housing? There's a wreckers called
"Auto Recyclers Mall", between Phoenix and Casa
Grande", I've been able to find a lot of H-Body parts
there. The Guy's name is Ryan, he's" very helpful! He's
looking for some parts now, for my other Vega wagon. If
he doesn't have it, he'll do all the leg work, and
try to find it. He will also "ship". His phone # is,
1-888-254-6766, (love those tool free #'s). His "E" address is,
RYANSPADE@aol.com. Hope this helps! Bob

Hey Jordan, just an after thought. I talked to
Bob Gumm last week. He said the rear ends don't come
with the brackets any more. That didn't bother me, as
I was considering a back half sub-frame assembly.
But a bolt in, is no more! Bob

If you have the early style 6.5" rear it won't
hold up to anything and there is no high-po parts that
I know of....If you have the 7.5" there is quite a
bit you can do to it(your best bet would be to go to
the 'GM H-body' club because this question is asked
on there alot)...but personally I think a narrowed
9-inch would be the way to go if you are going to spend
all that cash and are planning on making serious
horsepower.....Later... Rich

The original rear ends are junk for any
performance concerns. The easy way is to swap in a monza rear
end and install s-10 axles for a mild street car.If
you plan to race it then go with a 9 inch ford or a
12 bolt chevy.Both will require $$$ to adapt.Check
out Bob Gumms site listed in the links section over
on the GM HBODY club.He has many great tech pieces
as well as parts forsale.Good Luck! Bill@GM HIGH
PERFORMANCE.

One bit of advice. If you do swap out the stock rear end save it because you will need to rob the mounting brackets off of it!:):):):):)Bill
