Are all vega hoods welded on? I just bought the
car and I was going to take it off for engine r+r and
-wow- no bolts! And I thought I was a cheapskate... I
want to buy a cowl hood but it's kinda hard to weld to
the fiberglass hood... just askin'------------
thanks
Mike

hey mike,
usually the early hoods are all
welded and the later hoods i've seen both ways! i put a
cowl hood on my 72 with welded hinges so i ground off
the welds and it worked good.then later tried to put
a cowl hood on my other "72"and used bolt on hinges
and the holes didn't line up with the hood! they were
spaced to close together and i had to grind them into an
oval to make them work!
good luck to you,let me
know how it works out!

Okay, if this sounds confusing then tell me, but
hopefully one day I will have a picture of how my hood
is...Alright on my 72 Vega the hinges are welded on, but the
hood can be taken off and installed in less than a
minute, without a need to even align the hood. Here is
how it is, on the end of the hinge(where the hinge
from the hood, and the hinge on the radiator meet)
there is a pin that is held on by a weird looking
circular clip,<----just take this clip off, and then
drill a small hole in the pin, and just put a washer on
the pin when the hood is installed, and then put a
cotter-pin in the hole you drilled. .....If that is too
confusing, then nevermind, but if you figure out what I am
saying then it will make life easier when you remove the
hood Richard

Mike
The welds can be ground off to use these
hinges on a fiberglass cowl hood. but heres a little
suggestion. before you grind the welds off take a 1/8" drill
bit and drill a couple holes through the hinge and
inner hood skin on each side. these can be used to
align the old metal hood back up by sticking a 1/8" bit
in the hole on both sides. this is just in case you
ever go back to the steel hood. just a
suggestion!!
