Spyder hood decal

Hi Rob, the pic came from Tony LeCroy's (former)
'79 Monza Spyder (Yahoo ID "Fango78") He sold the car
just a few months ago but still has his '78 Spyder.
There are several pics of the silver '79 posted
throughout the various HBody clubs. If you can't find them,
I have several he sent me that I can forward on to
you if you want...

Ken

Spyder hood decal

Are the reproduction hood decals (such as the one
used on ex-Tony LeCroy car) supposed to match the
factory original ones?? Does the same go for the lower
side and rear spoiler Spyder stripes??

I am
asking this because I have seen photos of 2 Silver
Spyders (78 & 79) that have the original ones (I believe)
and they seem to have a lot more orange or red color
to them than the repros do.

Blake, I can only speak for Ralph Greinke at
Stencils & Stripes as to the reproduction of the Spyder
decals... I hear you can get them one other place too but
don't know anything about them.

When I first
started calling S&S in '91 and bugging him about
reproducing these, he said that it would be difficult, not
only because of low demand and the complexity of the
decal, but because of the "licensing" he insists on
getting from GM to recreate them. All of Ralph's
reproduction decals have the official "licensing" from each
car manufacturer, which means he goes through about a
2-3 year long process of getting a diagram/template
from GM, making several throw-away sets of decals to
pass GM's inspection, and then, after GM gives their
final approval, actually "start" production. It took
from about early '92, when he finally decided to make
them, until mid '94 to get through the licensing
process, but he passed, and started a small run of them. I
immediately bought my set of decals then.

So....
after that rigorous process, you can be assured that
they are "exact" duplicates in cut, quality, AND
color. Ralph prides himself on that. Also, to compare, I
had an original NOS set of Spyder decals still in the
box AND Ralph's reproductions and I can assure you,
they were an "exact" match! Now I just have to get my
car done so I can put them on! *smile*

Hope
this helps....

Ken

Ken,
THANKS VERY MUCH for all of your help and
info. as always!!!! I think the other company that
makes them is out in Arizona...the company might be
called Phoenix Graphics...I will have to check on that.
There might also be one other company that makes them
too. Research time...

Blake

Happy New
Year Ken!!

Spyder hood decal

Ken,

Do you have a web address, phone
number, streeet address or any other means of contacting
Ralph Greinke at Stencils & Stripes. Also, do you know
if you can buy specific decals (i.e. just the hood
decal, or door decals, etc), or do they come in complete
sets. And also, do you remember how much your decals
ran for.

Thanks for your help
Jim

Hi Jim, yes Ralph does sell the decals as
individual pieces, but note that he discounts the price
somewhat if you buy the whole package. The last time I
checked his "full package" price was around $350-$375.
(Also note that this is for '77-'79 Monzas only - not
the huge decals from 1980) I don't have his catalog
in front of me... and mine is old now anyway (time
to get a new one) ... and don't have the individual
prices for you. You can give him a call about that. His
web page won't list those prices out for you either,
it's a pretty basic web page. Here's Ralph's contact
information:

Stencils & Stripes Unlimited, Inc.
1108 S.
Crescent
Park Ridge, IL 60068
Phone: (847)
692-6893
http://www.stencilsandstripes.com/

Hope this helps...

Ken
