Here's what I found when
racing my 1980 Starfire GT in SCCA autocross
events:
The H-Body shocks are a bit shorter than the shocks
for a late 60's/early 70's GM A-Body, with exactly
the same mounting style. On the front shocks you
might have to trim down the lower mounting ears to fit
the lower a-arms and do a little die grinder work to
make the hole large enough to fit the shocks. Because
the A-Body shocks are shorter, any lowering of the
car with shorter springs will render these useless,
otherwise they will work.
The units I used for
autocrossing were PRO Shocks "Street Stock" circle-track
shocks for the A-Body. I still have them on the car, and
drove it daily (before the wreck....) with no
undesirable ride harshness. If you can find a manufacturer of
these type of shocks with a shorter model for a lowered
race car, they'd be just fine.
