rack and pinion (addendum)

As an addendum to my previous post about the
Jegster rack & pinion kit, I wanted to add the
following:

Using that kit "alone" would not be recommended. While
it is a standalone frame that welds in, there is not
enough sturdy material in an Hbody front end to weld it
to to make it sturdy enough to withstand daily
driving. You would need to use it in conjunction with
either a long frame connector setup and roll bars, or
long frame connectors and a back-half frame kit. The
point is to tie that front end R&P kit to "something
else" sturdy because there is too much flex at the
firewall on these cars. What you do to sturdy-up your car
is at your discretion.

Also, that rack &
pinion kit does "not" include the actual rack & pinion
itself. You would either have to find a used Pinto R&P,
or you could buy the Wilwood/Pinto R&P unit (Part#
950-350-2038)
from Jegs for $219.99 (chrome plated is all they
have).

I didn't want to mislead anyone. Hope this
helps...

Ken

Thanks for the info, I have ordered the rack from Jeggs. I have put a tubular frame between the two sides to mount the rack. I will have to do some creative engineering to get it all level.

David, How is the rack install going? I'm doing the same to a Monza (pinto rack should be here next week). I need the room for a dry sump pump and all my measurements look like it should go ok

I have the rack in. The arms are not exactly
straight. I am in the process of fabricating some
arms
that will Z to the wheels. The bump steer was too
excessive. I am working on it slow and sure.
