I tried to find the exact same combo in my parts
books. The closest I found was for a vega w/ 2.53 gears.
The part #s are 3987918-driven and 6261794-drive
gears. The colors are natural for the drive and brovn
for the driven. the # of theeth are 8 for the drive
and 18 for the driven. This is straight out of a gm
book. Hope this helps
you.

go to your Gm dealer and order
gears for a 1978 monte carlo
whit 2.29 gears whit a th-350

ratio should be around 1.84
(driven gear / drive gear)

Denis; Are you not forgetting that the tire dia.
also is a large factor in this equation? I'm sure the
Monte would have at least a 26" dia. tire wereas an
H-body would be around 22"- 24". Just another
thought.

Your right Aleck,
forgot to write about
this,.
some monte had small tires too
205/70/14
wasn`t very tall...

But anyways..

most
ofthe time you can got to your
GM dealer and ask
for the corect
speedo gears
