There should be no problem using stock manifolds
on your 355. Sure you might lose a little HP vs
headers but it should still perform quite well. Think of
all the musclecars that had stock manifolds on them.
Extrude honing them is a excellent idea but I'm not sure
of the cost and how much more HP you would gain but
if you are going the sleeper route this is a good
part of the plan. Sleepers are cool, I've always liked
them and a 355 in a light car is a excellent start.

I just overhauled my engine and was wondering
about the stock manifolds myself. I called Doug's
Headers in Anaheim and asked what I could do to my 75
Monza. They said the single exhaust must remain a single
exhaust (atleast in California) but they recommend going
to larger pipes - like a 2.5 inch pipes and large
intake and exhaust cat converter. The stock manifolds
would work okay on the street but definitely not good
at high flow rates. I think he meant high RPMs. That
is what I will probably do since I still have to
smog my car. Anyone out there familiar with California
smog laws? Can you tell me if the guy at Doug's
headers was telling the truth?
