subframe seperation?

I have only experienced the enlargement of the
rear axle lower control arm mounts on the body. The
constant pressure of dragracing had elongated the holes
and I had to MIG weld washers over the holes to
correct the problem. What brought it to my attention was
the car started lurching to the side during hard
gear-shifts. I suspected the rear suspension and when I looked
found the holes elongated (pushed forward).

Can
you photo the condition so I can check it
out?

subframe seperation?

Sounds like your pushing past the limits of what
a stock frame can handle. Having recently chopped
all the floor pans and firewall out of an h-body I
can tell you it's amazing they don't have more
problems! The four link is a great rear suspension and is
what is going in my vega. On the other hand unless you
want to spend lots of time tuning a four link a ladder
bar might be a better and a little cheaper
alternative. You need to spend more time setting up the car
itself for a ladder bar as you are limited to instant
center locations where a four link is fully adjustable.
The cars weight bias is more critical on a ladder
bar.

If your car is higher on the passenger
side
it`s a coil spring problem
The lower control arms
have no effects
on ride height
if you doubt it
try this,
remove one lower control while the
car
is on the ground and the rear end won`t
even
move(maybee front to rear but not
higher or
lower)

Try switching the coil springs from side
to side
those cars tends to weaken one
coil more then the
other side

subframe seperation?

yep. to many horses for the little frame.
Theres's a reason GM didn't put anything over 150 horses
in these cars. The stressed plate on the passenger
side front of my 76 2+2 split completely. The lower
control arm is 95% seperated from the body. To look at it
you can't tell thats there is any damage at all (and
yes it sits completely level) Luckily I have I have 2
parts cars so we're going to replace the whole plate
and then go through and shore up the rest of the
probable seperation points. The cause of this seperation?
improperly installed springs,to many horses(don't know how
many exactly but more than 150) and abusive driving.
hell I haven' even gotten to drive this one except
from where i bought it to my garage.
