Hey guys,
I totally understand what you all are saying. In regards to my not wanting to pay $50 per month, that's sorta true and sorta not true. I currently have 2 paying customers right now so my actual cost is really only $30 per month (I pay $44.95 but I charge each person $7.50 per month).

I may have a line on another company that will need hosting so my actual cost will probably drop to $22.50 per month.

When I was running IROC-Z.org, GMPerformance.org, AutoGoodies.com, MyLocalMerchant.com I was paying over $40 per month so I just upgraded to a reseller plan. I no longer have those sites (I will probably start hosting IROC-Z.org again soon) so I don't really 'need' a reseller account but it sure makes things nice when I want to host large files and whatnot.

Well, what I'm about to say may stir up some more bees nests but here we go..

This time last year when were discussing starting up the HBOA car club, I was preparing to get the site (HBOA.org) registered.... I was beat to the punch by Bob, who was planning on linking the HBOA page into V8Monza and make them into sorta one entity.

I had wanted to control the hboa site seperatly from the rest of the sites, just interlinked, but it was sorta a group consensus that v8monza and hboa go hand in hand...

So, in short, I <=operative word, may be able to ask bob to buy the domain from him... We'll see.. Maybe then we can work on my original plan with the HBOA, and getting the sites up and running...

And Colin, I would be more than glad if you hosted :)

Later,

Adam

Also, I own the hbcca.org domain we could use also (HBody Car Club of the Americas) If you would like to see the alpha version of my old HBOA page, you can see it at http://adambrisebois.ehost.com You can see what I was working towards before the domain "dissappeared"

Very nice. How user friendly will it be. How well will it store and recall important information? How will it be to post pics - LOTS of pics.

Well,
I'm sure we can work something out, here. I don't think there's one easy solution that will make everyone happy.

But that's life. I think that we can all be mature and agree on what will be best to do. I'm not trying to be a big boob or anything but I'm just more comfortable hosting on my server, one that I know has guaranteed specs.

You can view the specs on Autica.com

Colin,
If this forum resides on your server and is linked from the h-body.org web site will we have to login to both sites? If so, that's not good - very annoying.

No, you won't have to login to both sites.

I think having a main website (say, GM.com) and having a nested site in a frame at a different location (say, GMPerformance.org/forum) looks very unprofessional.

Taht's like saying, "Hey, you can chat at another site but my site isn't good enough to host the info you're more than happy to talk about."

Not cool.

I'd rather iron this out once and for all :) The dialog is a good thing. I did notice that Bob owns HBOA.org until February of 2007. I don't see much movement in that area lmao That's 'if' he replies to his emails before then :haha:

I agree. I don't like frames. I never liked the look of the V8Monza.com web-site and how it nested H-Body Talk, so I just link directly to it. I thought the name was too specific as I prefer the Vega more than Monza. The engine doesn't matter too much to me. But, I think they all look cool. Although I am looking in to a Pontiac V-8 in my Astre.

Dennis has made this post (good)

Upgraded the forums to phpBB2.

Everything appears to have transferred from the old boards, including user accounts.

Let me know if you have a problem.

Now if we can get these two working together??? :D :D

Yeah, I went ahead and upgraded my old forum because it was running phpBB 1.2 which is WAY ancient and susceptible to hackers.

Once we settle on a scheme of doing things, maybe now that forum can be merged with this one without too much drama... ??? I haven't tried to merge forums yet.

Anyway, it was a useful learning experience. Upgrade 1.2 to 1.4.4. Try to upgrade 1.4.4 to 2.0.21 only to find out that the upgrade script only supports MySQL 3 but I use MySQL 4. Instead, upgrade 1.4.4 to 2.0.0 because THAT upgrade script works with MySQL 4. Then finally upgrade 2.0.0 to 2.0.21 and insert the "user_timezone" field by hand (yet another known bug in the upgrade process) because the 2.0.21 upgrader doesn't do that. Seems OK now!

I just meant technical drama, like, does the merge tool actually work, or does it create a big pile of garbage...
