Serious membership problem. Take note

Postby Buscop » Tue Jul 11, 2006 4:43 pm

  I was just over at Dennis brown's site and see that he has switched over to phpbb format and that is good.
There is however a very serious problem. In his membership list there are 1014 members, almost 200 since Jan 06. But...if you start checking those with out posts and who have a web site link you will find it links to a porn site. I found 20 such links before giving up.

I hope Dennis is aware that his site and forums are infected with porn links. I do hope Colin is on top of this and has someway of of preventing this type of shit from infiltrating this site.

Colin does have a way to stop it... Manual removal and banning of accounts.

From what we've seen he stays on top of this site, so although we may have spam (just like we did occasionally on ezboard) I have a feeling it won't see the light of day much.

Right...I think thats one of the popularity factors of this site....the moderator is here alot more than away.

Slow boards like the hbfaq usually get littered like that.

my yahooski board is trashed.
people havent toally abandoned it which amazes me.

Maybe thats why I'm ok with the other board...I'm worse than Bob as far as being away from a site!!

That's an interesting observation I never thought of. I wonder how many of those 1200 registers on V8Monza are garbage.

At least here or at Dennis' place we can check them out, point them out to the moderator, who can then prune them.

In a way it's disheartening.....we may not have nearly as many H-body people out there as we assummed.

Yo guys,
Some of those accoutns may be created by bots. The registration process should take care of a lot of that.

Yes, accounts should be pruned. An easy way to prevent that permanently is to have the administrator moderate all new registrations.

Oh, and thanks for the nice words. I appreciate it!

Other manually checking is there another way we can clean H-Body.org membership up?

Sent to Dennis

Dennis, it's raining here so I took a few minutes to do some checking....sir your in big trouble..the bots have taken over your list. So far I'm up to 85 non-H-Body types on your list. Porn. Gamers, fast money sites etc. I'd say that at the most you have maybe 150 REAL H-Body members....It is time to clean house..sorry.

So you're telling me that Amanda Huginkiss is NOT a low-mileage Mirage owner, and that Hugh Jass is actually a web sever speciallizing in 'anal' and not, in fact, a factory original Astre?

Well there certainly is a lot of "rear end work" going on with a few of those so called members but the closest thing to a car anyone there has ever come.......is probably on the back seat... :censored:

and we all know that is :bs:

Yes, got your message over on the h-body site. The new phpBB has a more strict account creation process (validation image) so there shouldn't be any NEW spam accounts. I just need to go through the existing ones and delete them. That will happen before a merge, if there is one.

I'm on it. I deleted all the users that are OBVIOUSLY spam.
There may be others, but at some point you have to draw a line between "weird person with strange tastes" and "obvious spammer."

With those losers gone, membership stands at 544, so roughly half of what it was, but still more than I expected. :)

Let me know if you find any I missed.
