Merging of the Forums?

Quote from Mr. Dennis Brown of H-Body.Org

"Once we settle on a scheme of doing things, maybe now that forum can be merged with this one without too much drama... ??? "

My issue is the hosting, not the merging of the forums.

I'm about ready to just say screw it and send it over to Dennis.

i voted no
main thing with these type of boards are "bots"that join up .usually porn sites etc bogus members ...the admin of any board has to be super active in weeding out the $hit from the clay .......
it appears that Dennis has changed to the same format we are now on .........BUT so far has not realised he needs to be WAY more active in sorting through "bot " registration

this forum can stand on its own IF need be (and of course IF Colin wants to keep hosting /running it ......just have to figure out a better name so that it appears on searches better !!!

This forum can stand alone the way it is right now. Maybe add a link called "Library" where we could upload scans of brochures/wiring diagrams/paint chips/magazine articles/etc. Keep it simple to start and build it up. What about that Wiki?
Keeping up a site like h-body.org of V8monza is a burden to people with busy lives. If we have a site set up as a forum-based-user-updated it could require minimal maintenance and administration.

Roger brings up some good points for a Clone owner (j/k  ). The Wiki was an interesting idea and would allow users to update, rather than one person being responsible for everything, which I know, first hand, is a real chore when life gets in the way, as it usually does.

Adding more 'albums' to the forum allows for better organization and we all can upload pics, literature, etc, etc into the site for all to see and use (god knows I have a tonne of material that I could share with everyone, lots on my site, but so much more too). Unfortuantely I need more than just one pic here and there, I'd need albums for multiple pic use.

For what it's worth, guys, I do look at my forums and remove actual spam postings, not that there have been many.

I wasn't checking the member list as much as I should have, but while there WERE some spambot users (which I removed), they weren't actively hampering the board.

In the case of these forums, I've consistently said I would not host them at h-body.org UNLESS Colin is the administrator. He'd have full control of the board like now, it would just be on my server. That's the current sticking point, and if these forums are moved to h-body.org, everyone should recognize that he was willing to give up that bit of control and have that trust, in the interest of helping the h-body community.

One issue you've hit upon is the general issue of, how do you allow people to contribute to your site, without letting spammers (and the just-plain-clueless) ruin it?

For example, I've set up a private test wiki to see its viability for the H-Body FAQ. The problem with the wiki (mediawiki, used by wikipeda) is that it's open to the world by default, so it's even EASIER to get spammers ruining your site, OR, you have to restrict it and then manually set up each of your contributors, which limits the participation (but will likely help the quality).

Colin: Is that really a problem?

Dennis: Can you explain a bit more clearly why you can't simply have your 'Forums' link take us to this Board?

I have to ask because, as I've said, I don't completely understand all this server/wiki/computer gobbledygook.

It appears that we are closing in on the best setup we H-body owners could ask for. Please, Guys, keep talking....we're almost there. :hump:
