Spring Cleanup Time in the General Discussion

Postby res0o7eb » Sun May 03, 2009 10:24 am

Since we are doing some spring cleaning in the General Discussion area - it is too big - let's be consistent and move other posts to their appropriate locations:

Move these to Off-Topic:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=25944 - The subject is about Facebook.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26925
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26841 - H-Body in title, but subject is roadways.
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26776 - Monza in title only
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26772
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26723
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26592 - This should have been a PM or retitled Canadian Passport Fees
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26456

Move these to Car Shows, Meets & Gatherings:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26870
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26398
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26679 - Talks about Eric's Kammback, though
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26684 - This is about an F-Body Meet.

Move these to Engine Tech:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26633
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26610

Move these to Electrical and Wiring:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26915
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26861 - Not specifically H-Body, but good general electrical advice
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26869

Move these to Suspension, Steering, & Brakes Tech:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26891
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26862

Move these to h-body.org info:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=26612

There are many more that could be moved in just the first 3 pages that I looked in.

We have very good categories which should make it easier to find/search for the excellent information on this forum.
But, not everybody posts in the appropriate places.
Mods please be more diligent about moving posts from the General Discussion to the correct category.

No Doubt Tom.

I think were at this point, because of me being pretty relaxed about what ended up where, until yesterday when I began moving some.

Since the task involves thousands of post's now, I just settled back into the ones on the very first page.

My reasoning, is that I'm laid back, and even I have been known to post some things in General Discussion that should have actually been under specific topics.

Up to know I've felt that I dont want to be pricky and upset people who just posted,
so I usually opt to just let sleeping dogs lay.

Now I see though that, that can be just as annoying.

Personally, I would have set the forums up a little differently, which I think would avoid most off topic posts....

I would basicly rename the General Discussion area.....the "Fast H body answer's"... for asap issues, and anything else H body that didnt fit under any other category.

to me, the name "General Discussion" leans towards an open discussion about anything area.

Even though "Off-topic", is right below it.

I'd name that "General, Off-Topic Discussion's"

But thats a little off-topic here itself,

I will rearrange some posts this afternoon...Update: as of 11:50 I have all the above posts moved accordingly.

Going forward, I will reclassify and move topics with a little more vigilance.

I know from many failed attempts in my lifetime to change the behaviors of groups of people that it's nearly impossible. So if I catch something very obviously out of place I'll move it, otherwise I let it go.

tend to think that the "off topic" forum should be the biggest forum we have ....it is on most of the forums i visit :)
maybe off topic should be general discussion and general discussion should be re named h body discussion
also putting the BS forum at the top is what most people will then post in LOL

cleaning up a forum is not fun and takes a long time
