Let's tackle one project at a time. Modify the Garage..

Postby ColinOpseth » Thu Jul 20, 2006 5:54 am

OK guys,
Let's modify the garage to suit you all better. Some of you have posted comments on the useability of the Garage. You all seem to want additional fields. Let's get a thread going where we can address your concerns.

So, from the top. If you all can answer in a numerically-bulleted form that'll help me. Please use N/A or leave the number blank if you have no input.

1) What information fields do you want added
2) What information fields do you want modified or removed
3) What features do you not see that you want added
4) What do you like or not like about the Garage

I'll start with my own series.
1) I want more commentary fields so the site acts a bit more like CarDomain and not a cheap rip-off. I'd like to see: Purchase date, Purchased condition, story of how I found the car, etc.
2) I want each mod to have its own price with a final tally somewhere on the vehicle's page
3) I want to add a textarea box that will allow people to link the vehicle easily on other sites to the Garage. It'll be a simple HTML textarea box with code that the user can paste into a signature on another forum
4) I like the overall feel of it but I want to see more information about the cars. Some of it seems to be very short and to the point.

LAter,
colin

Sounds good, a section for the owners biography would be nice. (if they so wished, computers are so cold and impersonal)

Lose the Insurance and Garage Review - actually, cancel the insurance one, I think it might be good to keep that one so people can list the special collector car insurance they have so others can use that info to ge tcoverage for their rides too, but the Garage review is useless, there are not enough people in one place to have reviews of individual garage and mechanics, etc.

Garage

1. Info added? N/A Fine so far for me. I don't use all the features yet, so I can't really comment on what info should be added.

2. Info modded or removed? I agree, more commentary field, currently too short.... for each pic.

3. Features added? This signature thing you mentioned seems cool. I like the fact that I can click on the car link in each poster's info section to go directly to their garage. But I doubt the guys on the Jeep forums I visit would use it. I still like the idea, though.

4. Likes/dislikes I like the garage, in the sense that it is easy to post pics.
I like being able to see the poster's vehicle year, make, model info so I can look at just the early Vega mods or see specific 2nd generation models that I may be interested in viewing. Nice feature.
I like the random feature car.......
Dislike not being able to add comments on each of my pics. Would like to have a field large enough to add comments to each of my pics.
I usually don't use all the features of the garage(I use it for pics) but I do think they are a good thing to have. Eventually, I hope to add all the mods/info/pricing etc at a later date.

Colin, would it be possible to add some kind of navigation options to get us back to the main forum, from the classifieds? Currently we have to back up to get back to the main forum.

You can always click the big h-body logo in the upper-left of the screen to get back to the forums page... does that do the job?

I'm really happy with having something to track costs in the first place. The self important side of my would like the ability to add multiple pix per modification. For instance: I had the heads reworked for bigger valves. It would be nice to show the intake port, exhaust, valve size comparison shots, and the chamber. I'm working around it by posting multiple mods for extra pix...

Thanks for your hard work, man...

As of right now I don't believe the Garage allows multiple image posting per mod. I'd say your best option would be to add the pictures to your vehicle pictures.
