Retirement

Postby Buscop » Tue Apr 24, 2007 10:00 am

So is retiring after doing 32 years of shift work, getting wet, getting cold, freezing my ass off, getting dirty, getting hurt, hurting others?,sweating like a pig, getting screamed at, getting spit on,being abused, being disrepected, dealing with EDP's, dealing with a-Hole managers, dealing with OH I'm always, right, I pay your salary, don't you have something better to do, go screw yourself, etc., etc., qualify as an off topic topic??

1979 Chevrolet Monza 2+2

Postby spencerforhire » Fri Apr 27, 2007 6:53 am

Congratulations Russell! I hope you get to spend some of those newfound 40+ hours a week working on your Monza. I "retired" 3 years ago after 25+ years of employment as a car audio installer, and decided to do a little freelace work to make a few extra bucks. Now I still don't have much time to work on my Vega, because "Spencerforhire Automotive & Marine" has grown into a full time thing. At least now I can't bitch about my a-hole boss making me work overtime!
Moral of my story- make sure you budget yourself some time to work on your project!
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

Well I went in, signed the papers and as of May 12th 2007 I no longer have to get up a 3:00 AM, stay up all night freezing my ass off, stand around for hours bored out of my mind, (even though woman watching isn't boring) scrape some poor slobs brains and guts off the tracks ( knock wood I've still got 10 days to go) and will have lots of time to myself, my wife and family and hobbies.........I hope.

The irony is that with the difference between my pension and pay I was in reality working for about $5 hour!

Look out WAL-MART......LOL

Retirement

Postby BillB1210 » Tue May 01, 2007 12:32 pm

Russ,

You will enjoy it! I took an early retirement in August of 2002. I have enjoyed every minute of it, have lots of hobbies and things to do, which I think are key to a happy retirement.

Best of luck to you, stay safe for the next couple of weeks... then enjoy!

Regards,

Bill

Oh I'm going to take a bit of time off then get a part time job doing something I like. I have a few options, A Local Harley Dealer is opening a new shop just 5 minutes from me...cool. Or I can work part time at a Speed shop just 10 minutes away. Get to work on my Monza there.

Speaking of time off..anybody here live in Las Vegas? Will be there May 28th for four days.
