Stock tranny mount revisited. (now with pic)

Postby marco_1978_spyder » Thu May 17, 2007 9:46 pm

Is there a better idea? I keep breaking stock ones, I think my current
one has separated.

I know this has been discussed a while back.

Is there a better than stock mount that bolts in?

Is there a polyurethane or an interlocking version available?

energy suspension part # 3.1108R is what I used on my th350. (part # 3.1108G is black) Has a interlock.
You can probably buy one off the shelf at some autoparts stores. Costs about $22. It probably replaces most GM tranny mounts but I've only used it on my th350. As I recall, I had to use a couple of large washers on the underside of the cross member.
I just happen to have a pic:

Marco, not sure what you are doing to destroy mounts. While I did change mine once many years ago, it was just something I did because I had everything apart, not because I needed it. Sometimes they will become oil soaked or something else, but I never had that much trouble with the stock type.

I dunno.

Maybe I get cheapo ones?

It seems like the rubber separates from the metal, as if it wasnt really connected well.

Its usually as I try to get some peel-out action from the rear end. After a few times, it goes boom, and sure enough, when I check, I can lift the tailshaft up and down again.

The th350 and the saginaw mount are the same so the one mentioned so that energy suspension one should work, thanks for the tip!

Marco - I can tell you on my Quad 442 the aftermarket motor mounts are total crap! All made in India now - and they have no idea what they are doing. The rubber is supposed to be bonded to the steel - not just overmolded. The ones I buy are just overmolded, and not even designed right for overmolding either. Your probably way better off with a used GM one than a new aftermarket one.

I am convinced that for a street car urethane mounts / bushings (of any type) are a bad idea. I have them on my Starfire (as purchased) and it squeeks like crazy and rattles all over the place. I'm going to do the suspension over in OE type rubber.

I'm also running the Energy Suspension mount. I got 1108B because I want a stock look.

You must use the slightly bent bar when you bolt it up. It acts like a bit flat washer and prevents the bolts from working loose.

The poly mount also has a safety interlock that prevents the mount from completely splitting if it breaks. On my IROC the trans actually hit the floor everytime I jumped on the gas, when my mount was broken. Fifteen minute fix!!
'72 Vega with '93 Camaro LT1/M29 T56/12 bolt 3.31. 16" IROCs all around. Sanderson headers into duals with an H-pipe and Flowmasters. It's loud but at least it's faster than your grandma's Buick. pwned.

Most mounts sold in parts stores are made overseas ( Anchor Brand sold over here in AZ comes to mind , made in Korea) They just dont last............. JUNK! ( rubber rips in less than a year ! ) Buy something name brand.................TRW was good but I'm not sure if they make anything anymore............... Doug In Az 8)
