Lasik

Postby Bacchus » Sat Jun 16, 2007 12:10 pm

I've been wearing glasses since I was bout 7 years old. So this year I decided to do Lasik. My best friend got it done. My brother and his wife both had it done, and a large number of people I work with got it done.

So, yesterday I went and had it done. ItraLase Wavefront Customer Lasik, by Dr. Christenbury. The guy has done over 60k of them, and has done most of the Carolina Panthers and Charlotte Bobcats.

Woke up this morning and couldn't see for crap. All blury and my eyesight didn't seem any better than before. I thought, oh crap.

Just so you no, there is absolutely postively no pain. None. Completely painless.

So I go in for my check up this morning and they have me read the eye chart. Holy crap, I'm actually 20/40. Still fuzzy though. So they take out the contact bandages, and tell me to keep putting my drops in every few hours.

Here I am at noon and I can see like never before. I still have some dryness, but I'm definitely 20/20 if not better.

My left eye looks like someone punched me very hard. They burst some blood vessels when putting on the suction cut to make the laser incision, but it doesn't hurt at all.

I don't know why I didn't do this sooner.

I'm out to buy some sunglasses now...

I'd have that done but they tell me it isnt recommended for people so far sighted. I'm +5.50R and +4.5L with astigmatism problems to boot.

I'm so tired of plastic and metal hanging off my face, sore ears, waking up in the middle of the night and can't read the clock, cleaning solutions, eye drops etc.

You people with round eyeballs r lucky.

He's farsighted, not nearsighted. Lasik is not for farsightedness.

lasik does work for far sighted people
its the astigmatism that kills it
if its a reasonable amount of astigmatism at an oblique angle then its a problem
see a specialist and get the cornea mapping done you may be surprised

Any new developments on those folks that have a tendency to develop keloid scar tissue?

I'd heard they aren't good candidates...... and well, I happen to have a few keloid scars from the chicken pox when I was a teenager.

I'd love to ditch the glasses and contact crap.

Had it done when It was just the lazering of the surface of the cornia (PRK). I think it was 1997? I would highly reccommend it! I am 20/20 in the left eye and 20/60 in the right eye. only draw back is age. I have to use cheaters for some close up stuff.

Really, because the doctor I talked to, who has done 60,000 LASIK procedures since 1992, says it doesn't work for far sighted (LASIK). There are procedures for farsightedness, but not LASIK.

I thought farsightedness was caused by lazy eye muscles. Basically, degeneration of your eyes not astigmatism. I myself am nearsighted with HORRIBLE astigmatism. If I were to type on here without glasses I wouldn't be able to read what I was writing.

I really want to get LASIK but it isn't in the cards for me right now.

ok
Lasik is a general turm used within the optical industry !!!!!!!after 35 years as a spectacle maker i have heard many things
long sighted actually means that the object focuses behind the retina so a + lens in placed in front of the eye to bring the focus forward
Near sighted is the reverse so a - lens is placed in front of the eye to push the image back to the retina
then you have presbyopia ...........as in hit 40 and short sighted people take specs off to read and long sighted need reading glasses :(
then you have astigmatism :(

then you have someone like me that has 1 good eye and one that has had cataract surgery and a detached retina :(
back to wearing glasses
