A thread for any guitar players here..

Postby marco_1978_spyder » Sun Nov 07, 2010 10:23 am

A recent halloween thread turned into some interesting musician / guitarist talk. So I thought It would make a good topic outright.

Talk Guitars, or guitarists, or even anything music related here.

I'll go first here...

If you want to check out a really really good guitarist, that you may never have heard of.

...Bill Connors...

A sample song here...check out any one of them there all good.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSYiside2oI
He has a fusion style, You may note the lack of shred, or an evil edge to the music. His stuff is more unusual, haunting notes... jazz fusion I guess I'd call it.

Alot like Allan Holdsworth. Whom, by the way, I saw just a few weeks ago, jamming with his band, in a small cafe' on a college campus.

I wasn't more than 5 feet away, watching him play that wicked legato style guitar he's famous for.

Made me want to turn my guitar into a piece of furniture, lol. The coolest thing about the night was actually meeting Holdsworth, having a light conversation, and even helping them by carrying some equipement out too their van.

It was a super cool time.

Good thread Marco. I agree about Holdsworth, he is pretty damned good. I like to sit and watch guys who can really play vs guys who just play fast all the time. I do like variety and I also like to sit and watch one local band here who does Flamenco music. I have worked on some of the cars these guys own and one guy in particular always wears a glove on his right hand to protect his fingernails. He always walks with it up in the air like he is keeping blood flow down from a nasty cut. He can play and sound like 4 guitarists all at the same time. Very talented guy. :D

Been listening to alot of Mr. Big(Paul Gilbert) recently as well as alot of Jerry Reed.

And yes...Pauls play makes me just wanna cut all my finger tips off...cause I'll never be able to do what he does....Not just the lead stuff...but is rhythm stuff is crazy.

And Jerry Reed...well...Its Jerry Reed.

Stuck in the 80's
God bless

I saw Mr.Big back in 1990. Pretty excellent sound live.

If I could be any Rock guitarist, It would absolutely be Alex Lifeson of Rush. With Dave Gilmour a close second.

I'm not sure who the guitarist is in this next band, but if you want to find some space rock that grooves and rocks, try this band..

Ha ha ha....... been in my head for many, many years. "Shoot 'dem seals.... yeeeeaaah, shoot 'dose seals."

OK, from a slightly different point of view. (I am in no way musically inclined)
How about Jake Shimabukuro? playing "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
Give him a couple minutes to get rolling..... he plays lead and rythum both at the same time
By 3 minutes he's wailing..... on 4 strings!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puSkP3uym5k

He tours the world, playing his own music..... but he has some AMAZING cover songs that will knock your socks off..... with his choice of instrument.

Thriller (while I'm not a fan of the song.... His interpretation of it is awe inspiring) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snPQ1z5FoqQ
