Housework interfering...

Postby zeke » Wed Nov 13, 2013 11:04 pm

... with car assembly. I'll be done the living/dining room remodel by the weekend tho and back at the Monza!

Painting finished and hardwood flooring is half in. Air flooring nailer sure makes it easy. Last room was only 100sq/ft and I thought I'd save some money by drilling and and using a nail set. What a mistake, took forever. lol

Hi ,
Sounds like a recurring theme. My Vega has had to wait for a month now for the same reason, flooring. can't wait to finish and get back at the car.

Replacing 20 year old muzzy carpet with birch 3/4" hardwood. What a difference to walk on and the best part - you can sweep it.

After I tore up the carpet, I used the opportunity to take the wow out of the sub floor. I used 3" #8 screws to pull it down to the joists in a few spots. Now when I try to sneak out to my shop late at night, the floor won't go CREEEEEK and I also won't hear: "come to bed!" LOL Giterdun

My kitchen floor is so bad it squeaks when our 18 lb. dog walks across it.

Might have you beat on that one- my sister is renting my upper unit and her scrawny little cat will make the floor squeak when she walks across it! This winter the plan is to tear out all the floors, double up the subfloor and throw down some new laminate. Worked wonders in my unit, plus I had all sorts of oak to keep the garage warm!

Keep your eye on that cat. The last thing you need is to have the floor half done and then have to rip it apart because the damn cat crawled down between the joists.

See all of those mahogany doors and frames? I spent the summer replacing them in my home ( 10 doors, frames, and baseboards ) with painted MDF. :bang: It should only have taken a couple of months to do in the spring but it can be difficult finding the ambition to do something if your heart's not in it, and there's more to do next year :bang: :bang:
I see you have nice high ceilings. Must be an older home.

My house was built in 1928 and has nine foot ceilings, one of the reasons I chose it. Mahogany trim is special order these days! I did all my casing trim years ago when the mahogany was in fashion, 8 doors both sides, 10 widows, all with a miter box and back saw. :bang: I have a table saw now but I wouldn't attempt a whole house trim out again without that or a miter saw.

House more important then car so finishing it to get back to the car was my motivation. My favourite saying these days: Get er done! or my version: giterdun

House work is never completed but after re-finishing all rooms for the second time and the exterior in good shape, I feel that I can enjoy my project now. :th:

Nice work Zeke!
Soon you'll be able to sit in your car the same way and relax looking around as you do in your completed home...a nice feeling when all the dust settles and a feeling of accomplishment overcomes you! :th: I sort of remember your place but it looks very nice and I too like the older homes and have owned a few in the past. Sadly my favorite one was sold this past year and new windows, floors throughout remodeled the kitchen, a big sucker too, and then the roof job "FROM HELL",( 3 different tiers to contend with amidst 110*F and a summer Monsoon during that project nearly getting hit by lightning putting on tarps ) , but life marches on...maybe I'll buy another fixer-upper some day and pride myself doing it up like you just did...hmm, maybe you'd be interested in a side-line "reno" project?  just kiddin' bud. Once is enuf I'm sure! :P with how nice your house turned out, the Monza is in for a treat :th:
PS still got the Kawi?? might be interested in a cash deal... :?: :D

Hey Ron, thanx for the compliments eh. The house roof was the only thing I didn't do. It's pretty steep and I dislike heights. I had the fiberglass 50 year shingles put on. I will do my garage roof tho myself, in tin.

I sold my 87 1000R this year along with my 05 Renegade, too many toys.

Hi,
Thanks Zeke. When i put the first edge trim on a step, i stood back and thought it looked perfect. At the same time my wife said the same thing. as a bonus they are a lot safer at night because you can see the stairs by the front edges to know where to step.
