Got rid of my first Vega last night

Postby 76wagon » Tue Dec 17, 2013 11:33 am

Got rid of the Vega I've had for at least 10 years last night. No engine or trans, cracked windshield and thrashed interior (all the good stuff went into the good one). My dad was probably doing backflips when he woke up this morning and it was gone. I've had it parked in his driveway for over a year, and before that I had a '76 Chevette in its place.

Here's the Vega on the trailer off to start its new life

Image

Traded it to a couple brothers who needed something that would fit in their garage. Here's what I got for it- a '53 Pontiac Chieftain 4-dr, flathead 6, 3 on the tree, 6-volt electrics, makes the Vega look like a Ferarri by comparison

Image

I'll post a link to the build thread for the Pontiac once I start one. It'll just be safety stuff this winter to get it on the road. Vega comes first- it still needs the '72 front end put on it, 6-speed installed, body and paint, plus interior work before spring. After that it's Pontiac time- 2-door conversion, chop the roof, shave the handles, 12v conversion, etc, etc...

good trade, that visor itself is about a $300-400 accessory depending on how straight the stainless is on it.

Thanks everyone. It is a really cool car, the thing that pushed me over the edge on it was the cool-ass dash. Don't have a pic of it but here's one from the google

http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q= ... 7054228822

Got under it last night- floors, floor braces, body mounts and a bit of frame work all need to be done but that's all do-able with a heated garage, a beer fridge and 2 weeks off

Got a build thread started over on the Hamb. Here it is for all who are interested http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/show ... p?t=852572

It's gonna be a ton of work but it'll be a really cool car. Nowhere near as fast as the vega but the girlfriend really likes this one so maybe I can get away with more hours out in the garage

Update on the Pontiac- sold! Turned out the extra garage space I was banking on to keep it wasn't meant to be. Oh well, now I have the garage back for the Vega.

I didn't come out totally empty-handed. After less than a week this bad boy showed up on Kijiji for a really good price..

Just needed the muffler welded up and the shifter linkage thawed out, now it's parked and waiting for spring..

I'm headed out for a third push to the side, blow out later when it's done. Running out of room for snow storage, send heat.

No plow yet, that'll be a search for the summer time. Not really looking forward to all the snow blowing I'll have to do when I get home today but at least I don't have to shovel it all
