You can count on the fact that nearly anything you read or watch on the internet that is political has been slanted, doctored, or is outright false in order to support the agenda of the person or group who created it.

I'll start out by saying I could be wrong but I don't believe China allows cars to be imported so if you want to sell cars in the biggest market in the world you build plants. At least you get the profits out. I don't know what parts can be imported to China.

Add to that TV news, radio news, and newspapers. You have to research anything if you want to know the truth.

I agree with Fastmax, a lot of this stuff is driven for political reasons. I do know GM stock closed today at almost $41 a share! I had read that Buick is the best selling car in China.

Bob Lutz addresses GM's decision to build plants in China in his book, "Bean Counters vs Car Guys". In it, he says Buick was very popular in China way back in the 1930's that it is still considered the car to own. It's a huge market and growing, although I do question the ethics of a taxpayer driven bailout of a company that intends to build so many plants overseas.

They had to get bailed out, like it or not..... way too much of our economy either directly or indirectly is involved with GM, GM is doing well and so is the stock market closing at of 16. If GM folded everybody would be hurting, they are not American Motors or Studebaker, GM is massive! and General Electric is even bigger and makes GM look like a small mom and pop business. A large reason why plants are built outside of the US is not labor cost as they would like us to think, it is environmental laws that do not exist in these places.
Might have mixed emotions but it worked!

People complained back in the 70's of all the pollution from factories, well the government got rid of the factories and now there are no jobs cause of it.

Cant have your cake and eat it too..................

Trust me, I understand the politics around the GM bailout. Again, I question the ETHICS of the bailout. Not the legality, not the politics, but the ethics of having the citizens of the USA help out a suffering American company, only to have them build plants overseas. My Camaro was built in Canada...my Dodge Ram 2500 was built in Mexico. Wife's Hyundai? Alabama. Don't tell me about where the profits go....I know. I also know that Hyundai built a plant in the USA that employees Americans at a wage that will allow them to own a home, send their children to college etc.

I agree, it is ironic and sad. Surprising my GMC Yukon was built in Texas and GMC Sierra 2500 was built in Flint, but it seems more and more that American "made" vehicles made in America are becoming a thing of the past.

What bothers me most are my memories, and the knowledge that my grand-kids will never have type of pride in an American automobile. My Dad worked in a Chevy parts department. I remember when he was a counter man back in the '60s, and I thought the place was magic. He had some friends that drag raced and we'd see them at Richmond Dragway. Most of the time, I managed to sit in the drivers seat for a few minutes. Once in a while they'd break something on a weekend and call the old man asking if he could met them at the dealership. Lots of clutches, and transmission parts if I remember. I got in fights at elementary school over brand loyalty. Later he was the parts manager at another dealership, and I drove the parts truck for him from time to time, helped with inventory, etc. I still loved the place and the product. It's probably just me being an old fart, (and I don't just lament the changes at GM, but many, many other companies), but it sure is depressing.
