So to add to my earlier post about the poor quality G.M. crate motor...
Marty filled me in today as to the likelilhood of what took place with my engine and it's exactly as he suspected!
Remember when he told me how the assembly line guys don't properly check stuff? He told me today when I called to see if I could go to the engine shop to ceramic spray paint my headers while the engine is being rebuilt, he measured my block and found that the deck height wasn't machined enough and was the reason for a sluggish performance and he announced that as well, the cylinder bore was too large by 2 thou.!! and reasons why the rings couldn't seat properly! He said that the crate was likely at 7:7 compression from new and probably around 265 or less horse power a far cry from a 330hp motor as it was intended ...330hp with 9:5-1 was what it was supposed to be...NOT! nice, I couldn't win to begin with thanx G.M. assembly line guys! maybe they should have their 42.50 an hour pay cut in half!!!!......
The silver lining to all of this is as good news was passed on which made my day...the estimate will be much less as they are able to use my crankshaft and due to my steadfast habit of many low mile oil change intervals and the constant use of ZINC additive to the oil, I saved the crank...the cam can also be reused but they suggested that for 125nbucks, why not throw in a new one of those as precautionary and I agreed. It was also mentioned that he was very impressed with the excellent quality of the new cast block with a "36" in the serial number which was foreign to him and he said this twice as it was a really nice fresh new engine casting and too bad they didn't put it together right with the proper components....
The "new" engine will be re-assembled tomorrow and will deliver great fuel mileage as well as great performance and a nice highway cruiser quote from Marty @ Pro-Max.."lotsa jam"......I can't wait! ... I'll keep you updated..evidently,
