Sunbird for the WIN!!

Postby Sunula66 » Fri Jul 18, 2014 11:00 pm

:D A whole week has gone by (nearly) and besides telling a few buddies what took place last Sunday morning @ 8:30 am...I can't believe it still but I had some idea how it should run...so here it is,
after finishing up the 4th annual Bonnyville Show and Shine last Saturday, where the Sunbird and it's little friend, the 88 Kawasaki Police 1000 shared admiring smiles and stares in the big arena, I even had little kids sitting on my old Cop bike getting pictures taken, and after a long day of a pretty well organized show complete with the mobile dyno, very busy at 125.00 bucks a pop X 35? cars...we went for a brewski at a local joint. I bumped in to a gear head from here that I knew and we got to jaw waggin...mostly how's the car runnin with that new mill from Marty at Promax Performance. As it turns out my friend has also made a recent purchase and in the form of a '66 Nova with a sweet 383 stroker and an original 4spd bucket car! We both were wondering who would win that race so it was decided...let's go draggin!
We met at his shop at 8 am the next morning and drove out to a quiet blacktop in the sticks. Now here's apair of 50 something guys with two very unique and hard to find stuff for vehicles acting like a pair of teenagers again, best friggen thing that has happened in a while let me tell ya..so as we organized a 5 mph hit rolling start, we both had problems getting off the ground, it was Magical! He was watchin me sliding all over and I was doing the same as his Nova was tearin at the tires! After the first dispensing of Good Year and all 4 gears, we both had an idea of what was happening...I beat the mid- 12 second car by a car length!! KOOL! We decided one more time and as a controlled even and legal start, and no headlights coming at us  (I might have some "splaining" to do  ) we hit it again and my rev limiter was bouncing off of every gear at 5800 until 4th and I gained 3 car lengths  Holy Crappin CRAP. we both stopped after and just pissed ourselves with nervous laughter and he admitted that he jumped a bit at first but clearly watched me pull away somewhat easily. It was decided at that point that I have created a monster lol he asked if I held back at all and my reply was that I wound her out and even hit a 167 k (102mph) at three car lengths when I let up. He told me his 383 was over 400 hp and the Nova weighs 200 lbs more but he was satisfied at the outcome and was very happy that my car was back to normal, he knew about the bad luck with the other motor.
So there you have it. A 34 year old H-body still havin bragging rights :th: hope you enjoyed this little read as much as I did writing it for you H-body guys n gals :th:

Glad you both had fun, and no parts were broken!

All I have been able to beat this summer in my 14 second Sunbird Wagon was a snotty Kid in an old Prelude, he could not believe he got beat by an" Old Vega thingy" and he was really surprised when I pulled 3 car lengths going thru some S turns. He told me "rear wheel drive cars don't handle like that! I must be crazy to do that!" I had to agree. Funny I always thought FWD cars didn't handle well in the curves? I guess I am wrong again.
