..well, I guess for most living where our climate doesn't allow year round enjoyment of our beloved "H", this weekend pretty much spells out the final hooray for a chance to show our stuff, and yesterday up in Smokey Lake Alberta, was no exception. The annual Pumpkin Fest marked the end of a great summer for me and hopefully for a lot of other owners! The end of this particular event went off with a "BANG"! ,and last year they dropped a 780lb. pumpkin from 150 feet up and obliterated a small car pretty much flat! check out the website for The Town of Smokey Lake in Alberta Canada, find the "Pumpkin Fest page and "Pumpkin Drop"..you'll get achuckle. After the prize pumpkin is trucked in and is weighed, and this is an actual competition for locals, apparantly growing a "champion-Gourde" ends in laughter by all to see, I mean, what else does one do with a 700 plus pound veggy but ...drop it on a small car! and it's hilarious!
The "science " behind the scenes...removal of all glass and interior components and careful selection of a willing donor usually a Kia or Honda or other small victim and when the countdown commences, there's a strange silence...as it starts to fall, and it seems slow until, WHAMMO! and then simaltaneous loud laughter, , and that folks is the highlight! As we were sitting at the show with our cars, we thought we'd mention to one of our members with his totally restored 65 LeMans 455, hey, Doug, we nominated your car for the pumpkin drop ...we wished we took pics of his face when he realized what it meant!
So I hope everyone gets one good late run with their car before the white stuff comes! I'm gonna log out cause the weather is mild here and the trailer awaits near by.
After that, well, the sweater drawer needs inspecting and the winter woolies need to be organized lol..oh, and, I was already in a driving snow storm on past Thursday, so itsa comin"...happy Fall Y'all!! Ron.
