I'm not old! Am I?

Postby zeke » Wed Dec 10, 2014 11:10 pm

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN GUILTY OF LOOKING AT OTHERS YOUR OWN AGE AND
THINKING, SURELY I CAN'T LOOK THAT OLD.

WELL . . . YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE.

MY NAME IS ALICE , AND I WAS SITTING IN THE WAITING ROOM FOR MY FIRST
APPOINTMENT WITH A NEW DENTIST.

I NOTICED HIS DDS DIPLOMA ON THE WALL, WHICH BORE HIS FULL NAME.
SUDDENLY, I REMEMBERED A TALL, HANDSOME, DARK-HAIRED BOY WITH THE SAME
NAME HAD BEEN IN MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASS SOME 40-ODD YEARS AGO.

COULD HE BE THE SAME GUY THAT I HAD A SECRET CRUSH ON, WAY BACK THEN?

UPON SEEING HIM, HOWEVER, I QUICKLY DISCARDED ANY SUCH THOUGHT.

THIS BALDING, GRAY-HAIRED MAN WITH THE DEEPLY LINED FACE WAS WAY TOO
OLD TO HAVE BEEN MY CLASSMATE.

AFTER HE EXAMINED MY TEETH, I ASKED HIM IF HE HAD ATTENDED MORGAN
PARK HIGH SCHOOL ..

'YES. YES, I DID. I'M A MUSTANG,' HE GLEAMED WITH PRIDE.

WHEN DID YOU GRADUATE?' I ASKED.

HE ANSWERED, 'IN 1975. WHY DO YOU ASK?'

YOU WERE IN MY CLASS!', I EXCLAIMED.

HE LOOKED AT ME CLOSELY.

THEN, THAT UGLY,

OLD,

BALD,

WRINKLED FACED,

FAT-ASSED,

GRAY-HAIRED,

DECREPIT

SON-OF-A-BITCH

ASKED,

'WHAT DID YOU TEACH???

Just like in the story, I graduated from high school in 1975; I moved to the City(300 miles away) for college and even though I have a cottage on the family farm, I haven't actually lived there since. When I go back to my home town, I hardly recognize anyone. Some look enough like their parents that I can tell what family they are from, but in general it's pretty hard. To add to my confusion, people come up to me in the pits at the drag strip there and start talking about "old times", or mention a car I had in high school, but I have no idea who they are. They know who I am because my name is on the car and announced on the PA, but I often have to ask my brother "who the heck was that?"
I also have a bad habit of saying to myself "Who's that old fart?" and then realize it's someone younger than me.

That's great.
Yes, at 59 I think I look younger than a lot of people my age. My wife, holy crap. We were back in her home town and everyone her age that she hung out with looked at least 10 years older than her. To her credit, they even admitted it, saying she hadn't changed at all.

Good One Zeke!!
A few years ago my buddies awarded me with a black ball cap, kinda stylin' actually ...then I read the embroidered front, "50 and below it, "how the hell did I get this old?"....it became a tradition and when it was time for my friends birthday , I thought I would "pass the hat" unbenounced to them, :th:
when it came time to pass it off to "the Hawk", buddy that started it, I went to recover it to present to him but it had become lost through the chain. The reason being that most of us were within a year or two of one another excepting of course but the youngest member, ya you guessed it, smart ass the Hawk! ....I distinctly remember that little f--kr saying that he'd never end up wearing it because by the time we remembered what we did with it cause of the age difference ( 6 years) he wouldn't need to worry! :?
I do believe he turns 53 soon and I have a plan, my math ain't the best but I think a T-Shirt that says, "I'm 60 and kiss my grass" should suffice! What d'ya think o'that Ole Guy?!    I mean "youngster"? :th:
P.S. I think Jimmy has the hat! :bump:

Old joke....Old lady calls her doctor and asks how do I kill myself? He tells her to shoot herself below her left nipple. She did and shot herself in the knee. Saw another old man yesterday...he had a sweat shirt that said "the older I get the better I was" Remember when you last looked down and could see your feet?? Getting old is when your broad mind and narrow waist change places. Remember waking up with morning wood and now you wish you could?? Instead of watching the ball drop on new years eve, you watch it on the morning news?? Your joints tell you when its going to rain before the weather man does?? It takes you longer to get in your car than getting into a top fuel car?? Yeah...getting old is a drag...but you cant fight time and gravity...but its been a hell of a party!!! Cheers and beers to all!!!!

The popular phrase "you're only as old as you feel" describes my life; when I'm strapped in the race car and the front wheels are in the air, I'm 18 again. When I wake up on a rainy morning, I'm 90.
