4cyl Camaro??

Postby marco_1978_spyder » Wed Jul 29, 2015 8:52 am

2016 Camaro with a 4cyl? It appears to me we have a Monza back on our hands, only masquerading around in Camaro sheetmetal. I just read, maybe they were wrong, that the 2016 will be available with a 4 6 or of course, V8. The 4 is a Turbo of course and boasts some impressive number's for only 2 litre's. So it make's some sense for a Camaro.

I say they design a little Hatchback designed car, Airplane cockpit 2 seater interior with a generous cargo area, swoopy and spaceship like I think they could use just the 4 and the 6 (but build it so the V8 fit's)

Well at least the H-bodies were not on their list of the 50 worst cars of all time.

which left Camaro owners to drum their fingers while school buses rocketed past in a

Honestly, the older Camaro's with the Iron Duke weren't "that" slow. A guy from MD autocrossed one and trophied at nationals with it. I ran against him with my Vega about 10 times probably beating him 6 of the 10, but it was always close. I could out accelerate him, but he out handled me. I jokingly accused him of putting an IROC suspension on the car. I want to see a road test of the new Camaro 4 cylinder. I hope they'll offer a "stripper" version of it.

They are going to the same platform as the 2 door ATS Cadillac on the next Camaro run. I have a 4 cylinder in my CTS and it is pretty fast, or should I say fast enough

2.0 seems to be in every car now..I don't like turbo chargers but I have heard some cars can go plenty fast with them.

I have the 4 cyl turbo in my 2012 Cruze. It's pretty fast. Not V-8 fast, but fast enough for a Cruze.

But maybe for 1/3 the price of those.

And I know most car people don't want to hear about it, but with all the CAFE standards and emission standards coming in the near future most cars will be 4 cylinders, I think the days of the V-6 in most mid sized cars will be coming to an end in the next 5 to 10 years, and V-8's will still have a place in the performance market, but at a very steep price.

When you think they are getting over 200 HP out of a 2.0 I-4, and 250+HP in the turbo version it makes sense. I only hope the transmission choices improve by then. I drove a 2015 Camaro RS with the 300HP DOHC V-6. It may actually have been fun to drive with a manual trans, or a automatic that did not seem to be calibrated to not offend anyone, or possibly for the most MPG. The trans seemed to shift into the next gear just as the engine was getting into its torque band. Honestly I think my 3.8 Buick powered 97 Firebird is faster than that RS Camaro. And the Camaro has at least 90 more HP, but also 300lbs more weight. It also might have something to do with low end torque, and a manual trans in the 97. I see the Camaro's V-6 is rated for max HP at 5800 RPM, But the trans would not let it rev above 4000rpm. And I find flappy paddle gear shifts about as much fun as hitting a big pot hole, exiting for about 2 seconds, then irritation sets in.
