Side project (keg fridge)

Postby 76wagon » Wed Nov 11, 2015 6:29 pm

So I went and bought another toy about a week ago. Keg fridge! Here it is up and running

Turned up a handle for it at work, came out pretty good

Now HERE'S the project- an old Westinghouse fridge from the 40's or 50's (can't find a build date on it, last patent date is 1945). Got it free off kijiji (like craigslist if you're not familiar), Works great and super quiet, just needs a new door seal. Gonna give it a paint job, new insulation and the keg conversion.

Here's a couple torn apart getting a little body work done. In super shape considering its age.

Next is paint, spray foam and getting it in my living room! hoping to have it in paint and insulated this weekend but we all know how that goes...

Turned up a handle for it at work....
Umm, you guys hiring? .....you must be a bartender or have a great job involving drink an' merriment :th:
That's such a great idea you have. I have the identical mini fridge and freezer unit and they're not cheap...so do we put the keg in and actually run a tube to the spigot ?
Anyway, the fridge magnets are KILLER!! I love the top left one,

Not really a bartender. Beer - getter at home, machinist at work. That handle used to be scrap aluminum and 20 minutes.

Keg and co2 tank are inside, only thing outside is the tap. Those fridge magnets are taped on- printed out and laminated by the last guy. I'm thinking of adding magnets to them for the new/old fridge. I'm a big fan of the top left one too. With all the drinking I did when I was single I don't know how true it is though.....

Right now I'm between clear coats on the old fridge, I'll try and get some pics up after the next coat. Go figure the clear that orange peeled like crazy on the vega is laying nice and flat on the fridge! Maybe has something to do with the colour I painted the car

Got the fridge together last night, looks pretty good. Still want to rewire the whole thing and touch up some paint but having a party tonight so it's going in today.

Here's the door before wet sanding. Got some white specks in the clear so I'm going to have to touch that up eventually.

The lower front panel- a little better lighting to show off the colours.

And here's the whole thing together. Just need to drill the hole through the door and it's ready to go. Tossed around the idea of offsetting the tap handle but I think I'll put it in the centre. Thought it might look too close to the door handle but figure it wouldn't look right having the tap and drip tray off centre. Any thoughts?

I'll post a pic once it's all together. Should look pretty cool in the living room!
