Internet TV?

Postby Greybeard » Thu Nov 19, 2015 1:14 am

I'm moving back into my old place. For TV, I used to be on direct tv. Could have been on cable but chose the satelite. However I, like many others, got into it with the provider over them dropping Speed Vision. I'd stepped up to a much more expensive package in order to get it, but they insisted I finish my contract as the fine print said they could change programming whenever.
I can get very good internet, and wondered what kinds of stuff Is available in equipment that I might use with internet connected TV. I'll be buying a new TV as well so I'll have wifi with a smart tv. Do some content providers have streaming of their shows?i

The choices are getting longer every month. I haven't pulled the plug on my cable yet, due to sports. It's very difficult to do that live over the net without having to subscribe to every one of them separately. So, if you only like one sport, life over the net can be OK by getting something like Roku, then signing up for Netflix.
Add a couple other $8.95 monthly subscriptions for specific things and watch over the air shows on their websites. My wife seems to be able to find shows all over the place on the net.

I bought one of those new $49 amazon tablets as I already have prime. I wouldn't call the movie and TV selection awesome, but I'm too cheap to rent a movie, I only watch what they have for free. The amazon fire plugs into your TV to do the same thing.

HBO is launching their internet subscription service next year, so another option begins.

Amazing business practice the cable companies have of taking away channels AND increasing your monthly fee. They can get away with it though being a monopoly. Deregulate the cable lines and allow multiple providers on the same infrastructure like has been done with telephone.

Package bullshit! The providers can turn off or on any single channel on the digital boxes yet force you to buy packages. A hold over practice from the days before digital when groups of channels had to be sold together as the only tech for controlling them were simple screw in low pass, high pass and band pass filters installed at the residence.

I may try the Google TV thingy.

I'm not a sports fan, so when I got rid of ALL live tv about 2 years ago, it was easy. I watch tv shows here: http://thewatchseries.to/
Movies here: http://viooz.ac/
They're not everything, but they are free. :D

BEFORE you try to watch anything, you need to get Adblock. https://adblockplus.org/ It only takes a minute and works great. :th:

Been spending a lot of time doing research on this subject. As a lot more people are cutting the cord, more and more apps should appear. Might take some time but a lot of programming is free now. Life just kicked me in the ass again this year with a second bout of pneumonia. While on my back this last week, I've discovered YouTube. I think you can buy a commercial free version, but I don't mind 5 seconds of advertising. I was once a semi pro billiard player. I saw a link to a story about someone I knew in pool, clicked on, was sent to YouTube. Hundreds of hours of matches, links to free live streaming. A world I didn't know existed before. With a new smart tv I'm good. And the cool part is I've only scratched the surface.

I usually watch shows on Youtube that I cant stay up for or are not on tv at all on my prepaid card DirectTV.

They are usually posted a week later or sometimes sooner after the original tv showing.

Shows I watch: Fast n Loud, Graveyard Carz , Restoration Garage, etc.

For sports : www.oleoletv.ws/

Nfl games are on http://www.christiantoday.com/

The oleoletv has stuff I'd love to watch, but giving credit card info for a "free" service is kinda scary.

Unless they changed it recently, you dont . You just have to click the small "X" on the junk popups to get rid of them, Sometimes 5 or more will pop up till you delete them all. Annoying yes, but its all free.

Most of the sports are broadcast through SKY TV in England.

Just watched the Wladimir Klitschko vs Tyson Fury, world heavyweight title fight which Fury won on oleoletv.ws
with no problem. :th:

Picure got fuzzy and paused a few times but saw all 12 rounds interupped.
