I wonder how many thousands of square feet that covers.
That probably took the better part of a day to set up.

What I like about model railroad is building it...operating it gets boring, but I love building it.

Hi, my favorite part is building prototypically correct locomotives that aren't available from the manufacturers. The generic locos don't have the features of our Canadian locos so i change them to suit, then weather them to look more realistic.

I haven't done model railroading yet, but I most likely will someday.... One of my favorite things from my child hood, is the first street I lived on. It was built the old right of way for the defunct interurban trolley system that connected into Lockport and Niagara Falls. The street also ran parallel to an existing (then) Railroad also connecting to Niagara Fall's, called the "Fall's Road " That began operating in 1853!!

Vega engines would have made their way down these tracks from the Aluminum plant in Massena, to the Tonawanda engine plant in NF. (NY). Loved watching trains go by. Still do. There's tons of old rail trails and rail history around here, my facebook feed has 3 abandoned railroad pages post tons of awesome old local pictures.

AHHH this reminds me of a longtime friend who was a total RR nut! Back in the 60s when we were in the Navy and made deployments to WESPAC, he would shop around the Japanese train stores and pick up model trains, engines (steam trains) and cars of all types. He found a model of the biggest steam engine made in the 30s and early 40s. It was called the big boy. What made it so cool was it was made of brass, and detailed to the smallest detail. If you want to see what the real engine looks like google (I think) steam trains/big boy 3985. Sadly he passed 3 years ago and his wife (who was not a big fan of trains) sold off his 20 year collection to cover expenses. I found out from a mutual friend who knew my friend and he told me the brass 3985 sold for $2500. That aint a bad deal when my friend paid $45.oo us for it in Yokosuka Japan. How much of a train nut was he? When he got out of the Nav, he went to work as a security guard for Union Pacific RR. After he retired from that, he joined the Union Pacific steam train club and over he and like minded men spent 7 years rebuilding the twin to the 3985, the 844. His dream came true when he became the fireman and then the engineer and took it on tour the the northwest/southwest every year. Reminds me of the H-Body guys who take the same amount of time to build their dream machine (train sound) WWWHHHHOOOO WWWWHHHOOO!!!

Well Dick you are in luck! One of the larger/best model engineering shows is just over a month away and only a few miles from you [I'd say maybe 30 +/-] Now these are models but running drivable miniatures, there is some of the COOLEST things you could ever imagine that show up there. You will likely see locomotives, traction engines, cranes, bulldozers, aircraft, marine items from boats to engines, and other engines of just about every conceivable type I have seen 1/6 scale Small Block Chevy's [really small  ] even Briggs & Stratton. So if you or anybody else here or that you know in the area are even remotely interested in mechanical things or building things or any of the things mentioned you should consider attending. my stepfather joined me up as a member of this club with the intention of me driving the trains, unfortunately ive moved since and its too far to go for me on a regular basis these are ride ons and two active ones at the track now are fully functioning coal fired steam engines just like the fuyll size ones they mimic! stepfather built one a bunch smaller that is steam as well as he is in the process of building another steam loco right now that will be pretty much as big as the steamers at the track now. you wouldent believe the amount of fabrication and machining that goes into building one of these steamers everything must be made by the builder as there is no ready made parts available, another member is building a steam loco for the track here he had to get the boiler made in England and tested there as there is no one here that is certified to build them any more, the boiler alone cost him over 17 grand and still has to have it shipped from England to nova scotia. the locos youll see in the pics in the link weigh 3/4 of a ton at the least! http://www.novascotia.com/see-do/attrac ... ilway/1341

Hi Marco, No that is a GM loco called a GMD1, General Motors Division, built back in the late 60s. I built that one about 4 years before Rapido Trains produced one.
