i volunteer with some musicians at the montrose ny VA facility. go on wednesdays with a guitar player who plays at lunchtime, sometimes in different buildings sometimes a man brings in his beautiful labrador retriever to have the old vets pet the dog. it really has a nice effect on the oldtimers. some are WW2 vets so they are well over 90 yrs. old.came out of a different building this week where dave played for the vets that are a bit disturbed. sometimes it is funny to see the way they act and even argue amongst themselves but we always treat them with respect. one guy is a real curser in one of the wards, and another throws spaghetti. no harm done. now here is the story. last wednesday, dave and i brought the equiptment to his truck and I walked to my car which was facing building 6 where we go to the most. i get in, relax for a moment and look over at building 6, and(here it goes) 2 miniature horses walk out the front door with their handlers. they were golden tan horses with white manes. one was taller than the other. dont know what they were in there for, the handlers just walked them down the sidewalk towards another bldg. and i went on my way. there are elevators in there(3 stories) just shocked the hell out of me. still cant figure it out. will ask this wednesday what that was all about. if you were there and saw this you would still be shaking your head too.another thing i thought about later. who follows them around and cleans up. remember the saying
ont ever march in a parade behind the horses and elephants. sure hope the horses made some of the old vets happy.PS if any of you guys use the VA facilities, look in and see if there is any way you can help the old timers over there. art
