My first Rallycross

Postby bugdewde » Sun Oct 30, 2016 11:26 am

Entered the beater '91 Miata in a rallycross yesterday. It was my first "organized" off-roading event, other than the Jeeping events I used to go to.

Imagine an autocross, but will less traction..... and lots of ruts, bumps, huge elevation changes and hay field seed (which somehow always ending up collecting inside the top of the helmet).

AMAZING FUN! I'm hooked.

Ran a few in my Vega way back, and more recently in a friends Subaru WRX. In my honest opinion, more fun than autocross. The guys on real rally tires haul butt.

I would have to agree....... The thrill of "drifting" every corner, braking effectively and attempting to get a good line is awesome. Just wish it wasn't so hard on the car... and driver.

Since I was the only rear wheel drive "stock" car in attendance, I won my class.
Trophies were an O'Reilly's Frisbee and a rallycross sticker.

Two more races are scheduled this year.... I hope to be in attendance for both

Dwight I wouldn't tell anybody you were the only one in your class! The first thing you have to do to win is show up [as many times as possible if you are running in a "Points" series*] second thing you have to do is finish! I am speaking from experience, and quoting somebody with a real racing pedigree [AJ Foyt? maybe] these don't diminish the victory in any way shape or fashion, ask any Baja 1000 winner, they will explain the ears off of you! Harry :th: :D  *In our best year racing the "Midget Race Car" we finished 5th for the season, and 2 10th place finishes for the two races we had to miss for more important things would have meant a first for the season, it is the little things that change the world even if it is just our world.
