Phill's new project

Postby 76wagon » Mon Nov 07, 2016 2:33 am

Just got this home tonight. 1976 chevette with a ton of parts and such. Wondering where to do a build thread- chevette forums suck and I don't know if the hamb would take me. I could post about how great chevette were and be a dick to people who disagreed. I'd call myself vegavettephill

I don't know it the Chevette was 4x4" or 4x100mm bolt pattern, but "back in the day", all the cool ones wore H-body 4-spoke rally wheels.
The "fleet"-
72 Vega HB Drag Car -383/'Glide/9"(9.35@146.19)(5.94@117.28 1/8th)
77 Vega Estate wagon- project(someday)will have TPI305/T-5, S-10 spindles/axles
76 Vega GT- 400/4spd/9" retired from active duty(rusty)
06 Silverado 2WD ex.cab daily
03 Silverado 2WD ex.cab (retired)
06 Haulin' 20ft enclosed car transporter
06 GMC Canyon Shop truck
07 Colorado project( 5.3 4L60e swap)
99 Saturn SL1- wife's car
01 Saturn SC2- son's project
07 Saturn Ion Redline project
and 4 more Saturn "parts cars"
Note- the very act of listing all of these has made me realize I have some kind of problem.....

I had a '76 Scooter once for a beater and some Vega parts lying around. It got the 4-spoke GT wheels (4 on 4" and 4 on 100mm are pretty close), Custom Interior seats and the 4-spoke steering wheel.

I think most of us would appreciate any kind of project.
The off-topic forum seems like an appropriate place for it. Would be interesting to hear the views of others.

"vegavettephill" I love it. My brother had a '76 Chevette with the 1400cc engine. It was a tough little car, and he loved it. It tangled with a mid 70's Impala, and that was the end of it.

Phill what are you thinking for this? Ecotec, transverse in the back seat? Get the supercharged one and that will be a wheel stander and a blast to drive! Imagine that 18/19 year old next to you at the light with his fart canned Honda, sitting their giving you the look like "is this guy crazy revving up a Chevette like he has a chance" Green light and it is all over but the CRYING! I'd have to dig to find the article, but back in the early '80s GM had an engineering exercise of installing a 2.8L V6 in a Chevette. It was as quick or quicker than the Camaro at the time, and got like 25 mpg.

I have seen these engines (60 degree V6) in Chevettes. It is a very natural fit, lots of room. They have also grown larger in displacement since that engineering exercise.

Thanks everyone, should be a fun project. It actually came with a 3.4 v6 from a '95 Camaro. It's a long story but I actually owned this car years ago and sold it to this guy as a project with most of the parts it came back with. The guy I sold it to lost interest and wanted his garage back for another project so now it's back in my garage. In with the parts I sold it with (and that came back with it) are T5 from an S10, a 3.1 from a Cavalier and a 2.8 from an S10 that I had in an '86 Chevette at one time. I have a spare Monza rear for it as well.

I'll post a few pics when I get it up on the rotisserie and a link to the build thread once I find a place to put it. This one will take a little longer than the Vega, had to promise the girlfriend I wouldn't spend all my time on it like I did with the Vega.
